Overall

Never in my life have I experienced something so unprofessional, and just out and out nasty, when contacting a business. I'm the assistant for one of this company's EXISTING CLIENTS, and was asked by her (the existing client), to call about some malfunctioning sprinklers at her home. She simply wanted someone to come out, When I called, whomever answered the phone said "Hello?", as if I was calling a home or cell phone number. Mind you, I called the pre-printed (not hand-written) phone number on one of their receipts, listed right under the business name. The man who answered didn't introduce himself at all, and also didn't mention the business name. I asked for "George at Fabulous Lawns and Sprinklers" (as I was specifically asked to), and said I was calling on behalf of one of their clients. I then heard nothing, then that loud beeping that happens once you've been disconnected on a land line. I was forced to call back, thinking that perhaps I had simply been accidentally disconnected, and the same man with the same voice answered, again only saying "Hello?" So I again asked to speak with "George at Fabulous Lawns and Sprinklers", and said that I thought I had gotten disconnected somehow. That's when this man, in the rudest tone possible, informed me that he doesn't speak with solicitors. He also said, "and it's SPRINKLERS, not SPRINKLES. Sprinkles go on cupcakes, not lawns.." I mean, what? Even if I did say "sprinkles" (which I didn't, I'm pretty darn articulate, and I knew what I had just said), why on earth would you point that out to someone, except just to be nasty? It would be obvious to most people that the person their speaking with either accidentally mispronounced the word, or you just didn't hear them correctly...completely unprofessional, to say the least. I explained to him (AGAIN) who I was and why I was calling, told him he was being exceedingly rude and that it was unbelievable, and his only response was that he would have "George" call me back. He offered no apology for his appalling behavior, never did identify himself either, nothing. He never took down his client's name (my employer) or her contact number, and I wasn't calling from her home, so his caller ID wouldn't do him any good. Knowing that "George" would have no way of reaching her (and thinking that perhaps he wouldn't even try), I told my employer what had occurred and she said she would call and handle it. My advice to potential clients, thinking they'll have a typical and professional experience with this company....think again, and AVOID. What they did to me, they might do worse to your lawn. Additionally, who would want to pay people who conduct themselves in that manner, no matter how good their services are? Not me, that's for certain.
