If your pet’s tooth becomes infected, we may need to extract the tooth to prevent the spread of the infection or to stop your pet’s pain. Tooth extractions are often a last resort. We work with pet owners to avoid extractions by providing preventative care.
Vaccination
The vets at Country Animal Hospital have spent a LOT of time researching and learning about vaccinations, medications, treatments, and preventatives, and we truly want what is best for our community’s pets. We continue to believe that Seresto collars are as safe a product as any on the market. If your pet has an adverse reaction to Seresto, there are other products that we endorse (we carry two topical options for cats, and an oral pill for dogs). We always want to tailor all of our recommendations to your particular pet. Perhaps the best endorsement of the Seresto collars at this time is to acknowledge that many of our staff chooses Seresto for their pets’ preventative product, and will continue to do so in the future.
Nutritional Counseling
Pets age faster than humans so we have a shorter amount of time to identify and treat their illnesses. We recommend healthy young pets receive annual wellness visits. During these visits, we will discuss your pet’s health, ask about concerns you may have, and recommend testing as needed to identify any problem areas. If you notice any changes in your pet between wellness visits such as vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, weight gain/loss, excessive thirst or voiding, or a change in a behavior, please bring him/her in sooner rather than later.
Comprehensive Examination
Since not all animal health problems can be caught through a physical exam, we pride ourselves in having the best laboratory and diagnostic facilities in the veterinary industry. We have a vast array of laboratory tests and diagnostic equipment that help us give you the most accurate picture of your pet’s health. Making sure we have this equipment not only makes our hospital better, it ensures that your pet has the best care possible, as quickly as possible.
Country Animal Hospital offers a complete in-house veterinary pharmacy for our clients. We have several types of flea, tick, and heartworm prevention options, and our staff is well trained in helping you choose the correct one for your pet. In addition to stocking a full pharmacy of prescription medications, we can also frequently use flavoring on some custom orders to increase palatability and ease of administration of many medications.
Pain Management
Both spaying and neutering are surgical procedures that prevent an animal from reproducing. Spaying is performed on female animals and involves surgically removing the uterus and ovaries. Neutering is performed on male animals and involves removing the testicles. While we never minimize any surgery, most of these surgeries are routine, can usually be completed within a few hours, and do not require an overnight hospital stay. We always send your pet home with pain medication, and complete a complimentary discharge appointment with you to ensure you know how to properly care for your pet after spaying or neutering.
Regular grooming not only helps your pet feel better, but provides many important health benefits as well, making grooming not only a refreshing treat but also a sensible part of any preventative wellness routine. Both cats and dogs benefit from the way brushing redistributes skin oils and removes both irritants and hot layers of extra hair. A haircut is incredibly important for pets with matted fur as all those mats hold moisture and bacteria next to your pet’s skin and in their ears leading to skin and ear infections. Bathing is another important aspect of grooming because it washes away excess oils that can attract bacteria and allergens, along with dirt, pests and unpleasant odors.
As both pets and humans age, we all have an increased risk of illness. Health changes during our geriatric years can be more rapid with more serious long-term consequences. The earlier we detect signs of a problem, the more effective our treatment and rehabilitation options will be. Consequently we recommend that geriatric pets receive a wellness exam every 6 months and complete lab work (complete blood cell count, internal organ function, thyroid testing, and an urinalysis) at least once yearly. If a problem is identified, we will tailor our treatment recommendations to your pet to provide the longest and happiest life possible.
Heart Disease Treatment
Kidney Disease Treatment
Along those same lines, a toxin should result in similar clinical signs among all symptomatic animals. The article is claiming anything from a ruptured ear drum to liver failure to kidney failure to seizures could be linked to Seresto. You should be skeptical of such a laundry list of problems from a single product.
Periodontal Disease Treatment
Bad breath is usually the first sign of periodontal disease. The same bacteria that cause bad breath, if left untreated, can spread through the bloodstream and can lead to cardiac disease, kidney infection, liver infection, or stroke.
At Country Animal Hospital, we encourage all pet owners who do not plan to breed their pets to consider spaying or neutering them. Nearly 4 million pets in the United States are euthanized annually due to overpopulation.
Recommend additional testing as needed based on exam and testing results; examples may include comprehensive blood work, urinalysis, or X-rays.
X-Ray
Dental Radiology
By taking full-mouth radiographs, we can more accurately diagnose very common diseases. Studies have shown dental disease is incompletely diagnosed 70% of the time without X-rays. Common findings using dental radiography include...
Microchipping
One out of three pets will get lost at some point in their lifetime. Without identification, 90% will not return home. The AVID Microchip is a safe, non-migrating microchip with an unalterable 9 digit code which lasts the entire life of your pet. AVID states that approximately 1,400 pets with microchips are reunified with their owners per year, saving them from euthanasia. If your lost pet is brought to a veterinarian’s office, an animal shelter, or was recovered by animal control, all agencies are trained to scan all pets upon receiving them.
6) Doggy Daycare, grooming, and boarding services will remain fully open. Drop off procedures for daycare may change to maintain social distancing.
Grooming
Since the grooming service is located in our veterinary clinic, we also have access to sedatives and/or full anesthesia as needed to allow your pet to receive the best grooming outcome possible for him/her. In these cases, one of our excellent veterinary technicians will monitor the sedation and perform the groom to ensure the safety of your pet.
Senior Pet Care
Dina Bahrawy attended Tufts University and graduated from the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. She was fortunate to explore her interests in marine animal medicine through various internships including the New England Aquarium in Boston which she had always loved visiting as a child. But she has also always loved Vermont, despite the lack of ocean life, and has enjoyed working with families to care for their pets in Vermont since 2006. Dina especially enjoys counseling owners on best ways to care for their senior pets with a focus on promoting the best quality of life possible. In her free time, Dina enjoys playing outdoors in every season and especially loves winter hiking with her dogs, George and Mr Piffles, and swimming in the ocean with her daughters.
Dog Training
Unfortunately due to COVID-19, we are not currently offering training classes. We have a list of trainers in the area that we will send out upon request. We are hopeful that in the future we can resume dog training classes in our wonderful indoor & outdoor spaces.
