Dental Examination
Once your exam is complete, the dental hygienist will then perform a periodontal exam to make sure your gums adhere tightly to your teeth, and that there are no signs of periodontal disease or bone loss.

Teeth Cleaning
The first line of defense against gum disease is a unique type of cleaning called “SCALING AND ROOT PLANING.” In this procedure, an ultrasonic cleaning device and hand scalers are used to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth and around the root. Then, the rough surface of the tooth and the root are smoothed out (planed). This provides a healthy, clean surface that makes it easier for the gum tissue to reattach to the tooth.
Fluoride Treatment
A fluoride treatment in your dentist's office takes just a few minutes. After the treatment, patients may be asked not to rinse, eat, or drink for at least 30 minutes in order to allow the teeth to absorb the fluoride. Depending on your oral health or your doctor's recommendation, you may be required to have a fluoride treatment every three, six, or 12 months. Your doctor may also prescribe an at-home fluoride product such as a mouthwash, gel, or antibacterial rinse.
Dental Sealants
Sometimes brushing is not enough, especially when it comes to those hard-to-reach spots in your mouth. Dental sealants are plastic resins that bond and harden in the deep grooves on your tooth's surface. When a tooth is sealed, the tiny grooves become smooth and are less likely to harbor plaque.

Veneers
Most doctors examine your teeth under 2-1/2 to 3 power. A microscope allows Dr. Steger to magnify up to over 10 power to perform dental work such as crowns and veneers! It also aids treatment of root canals and other non-surgical treatments. Your dentistry should be spot on and precise, with a great look and fit that lasts for years. A microscope is a key part of that process.

Crowns are a cosmetic restoration used to strengthen a tooth or improve its shape. Crowns are most often used for teeth that are broken, worn, or partially destroyed by tooth decay.

Root Canal Treatment
Endodontic Treatment, also known as a root canal treatment, is a treatment of the tooth aimed at clearing infection as well as protecting the tooth from subsequent infections. When a tooth is cracked or has a deep cavity, bacteria can enter the pulp tissue and germs can cause an infection inside the tooth. If left untreated, an abscess may form which can cause pain, swelling, injury to your jawbones and at times, removal of the effected tooth/teeth. More seriously, these infections can also become detrimental to your overall. Endodontic treatment is intended to help save your tooth from extraction.

General Dentistry
After graduating with honors from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry in Richmond, he served three years of active duty as a captain with the United States Air Force, and completed an advanced education general dentistry residency at Barksdale AFB in Shreveport, Louisiana. He also served two years at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he received additional training in radiation safety, forensic dentistry, and combat casualty care. In 2002, Dr. Steger received the Air Force Achievement Medal for Meritorious Service and moved back home to begin private practice.
