The Oldest Coin Shop in Charlotte
- General Info
- Hyatt Coin Shop was started in 1959 by William (Bill) E. Hyatt, retired Staff Sergeant of the U.S. Army. Coin collecting had been a passion of his, and his two sons Larry and Terry Hyatt would help him search bags and rolls as well as travel to the nation's capitol to pick up bags of Morgan Silver Dollars in the 1960's. The Hyatt Coin Shop was successful due to Bill's hard work and passion for the hobby, and soon began to expand. Part of the expansion of the store was due to the addition of other product lines - namely Firearms. In the purchase of a large coin collection that Bill Hyatt made, there were included some old Winchester Shotguns. After researching the guns and becoming interested in the history of Firearms, Bill obtained the necessary licenses to engage in the trade of firearms, and soon the business began to boom. Larry Hyatt, Bill's oldest son, came into the Coin & Gun business and took the business to much higher levels. Larry now runs the store, and Bill still frequently works in the coin department. Under Larry's management the store has expanded to over 200,000 square feet, and has become one of the largest gun stores on the east coast. The coin shop is still going strong, and Larry has enriched its inventory over the years, giving his customers a wide variety of coins to view and add to their collections. Terry Hyatt, the younger of Bill's two sons, worked in the store for quite a few years, specializing in military collectibles, before moving about an hour outside of Charlotte to run his father's Cattle Farm. Many fine military collectibles are still bought and sold at Hyatt Coin & Gun Shop. Larry's youngest son, Mitch Hyatt, has recently come into the business, and has renovated the coin department, expanding it to reflect the renewed interest in the hobby spurred by the Statehood Quarters and rising metals prices. Adding active Want Lists and some Consignments to the Coin Shop's list of activities, Mitch has created a more fluid coin shop where inventory rotates often and the coins desired by customers are quickly found. Mitch is a graduate of the American Numismatic Association's Grading and Counterfeit Detection programs, and can help you find the coins that meet the exact standards that you desire. ANA Life Member# L-3124159 The advent of the internet-age promises to bring more changes, and we look forward to serving you better with each visit to our store or website. One of the largest Coin Shops in the Carolinas, Hyatt's is able to purchase collections of all sizes, and the trio of Bill, Larry, and Mitch Hyatt have the expertise to accurately appraise all collections and pay top dollar to those interested in selling. Whether you are looking to buy, sell, or just learn about coins, we welcome the opportunity to serve you both here in our store and through our website.

Ian did a great job explaining things and helped with my purchase of a benelli m4. I even got to observe the gunsmith put the gun together out of the box. Great people and good customer service!

As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted by Patrick. I came in with the intention of buying a shotgun, but wasn't sure what was right for me. Patrick helped me find the KSG that I brought home that day. No pressure from him to buy and good conversation the hour or so I was there. He even helped me bring my ammo to the car when my hands were full. This is my second gun purchase from this store and I will be back again. Thanks again Patrick.

Husband stopped in to have a look at what is advertised as the largest gun shop in the country. It was very busy and although, we were just browsing, several employees offered assistance.
Husband wanted to check out some hard to find ammunition for one of his rifles. This store had what he needed. Husband is more knowledgeable with this kind of thing. I more or less wandered through the store. There was a lot of military memorabilia on display which was very interesting. The items from WW2 mainly caught my eye.
It was worth taking time to stop in to look around.

Huge store with very many associates that all seemed to be very well educated and a massive selection of items. If you need a variety of things this is the place to get it. I went into Hyatt Gun Shop looking for some reloading gear and was impressed and pleased with the amount of info and help I was given. Nick in the reloading department was one of the most judgment-free experts I've had the pleasure of working with. I did not know what I needed and he walked me through the process thoroughly despite being pretty busy. Even though this shop is on the other side of town I will definitely be coming back here for all my ammo needs. Thanks Nick!

I'm completely new to gun shops and wasn't sure what to expect. I visited for my first handgun purchase and what a great experience. Their team has been fantastic every time I have visited. Everyone is helpful, knowledgeable, and patient especially with all of my questions. Would highly recommend this place

I took four long guns to Hyatts for estimates on repairs. I actually dealt with the oldest and most experienced gunsmith employed by Hyatt. His name is Woody and he was extremely knowledgable and helpful. He has the answer to most questions about firearm repair or restoration.
Going to Hyatts is worth the 2 1/2 hour drive for me just to see the huge inventory or handguns , long guns, safes , firearm accessories; etc,

I ordered several sporting over and under shotguns from Hyatt. They are polite and efficient and fair. I needed a receipt for a rebate offer from Beretta, and a fellow named Hank was very helpful and went above and beyond to help me. Hyatt is great and Hank in particular.
Many thanks.

Me and my wife were first time gun purchasers at Hyatts Gun and right from the start they all were friendly and really made feel comfortable by explaining everything we needed to know as first time buyers. Recommended that we first take a training class test several different firearms find one that we were comfortable with and then purchase. We were not pressured to buy. They were more concerned with our safety than making a sale. That meant alot to us. We took the class and purchased our firearms from them. They diffinatly have us as loyal customers thank you and all the staff.
