I went there for the first time and placed a special order to have some stones set. I was told they would call me with an estimate on one of the stones I wanted to have set. I asked if they would call the next day, and was not given a direct answer. I assumed it would be soon, and I said that when I heard from them, I would bring in a deposit.
Incidentally, while I was in the store, I noticed that I was not being treated as politely or nicely as some of the other customers were. Other customers were coming and going, and the owners were joking with them and greeting them by name. I felt kind of like I was merely being tolerated. I'm not sure why this was, maybe because I am younger than them, is the only guess I can make. I thought that I should stick it out, because I didn't know of any other jeweler who would do custom work.
Well, I waited for a whole week and did not hear anything from them. I decided that this was not a good sign, and that I should find someplace else to get the work done .(which I did, and they are asking a lot less money than Antrobus to do the same work!)
So I went to back to Antrobus, and they acted as if they didn't even recognize me. I was greeted with a simple "Hi", which was kind of strange, seeing as how I was there a week earlier. I asked for my stones back and they seemed surprised that I should ask that. They said they thought that I was supposed to come in with a deposit. I pointed out to them that they had written right on my claim ticket (which they of course had a copy of) "Call with estimate", And I also reminded them that I had said I was waiting for them to call so I could bring in the deposit. They made no apology, and said nothing else but promptly went about finding my stones. They dumped my things out on the counter, including one of my stones, which could be damaged by hitting a glass counter top. They gave me a paper bag to put my things in, and then proceeded to ignore me! They said nothing else to me, not even goodbye!! I am flabbergasted by this.
I was made to feel like it was somehow my fault that there had been a misunderstanding. I guess they have never heard of "The Customer Is Always Right", or even simple customer service.
I think this was very unprofessional and downright rude behavior on their part. Apparently since I canceled my order, they thought they wouldn't make any money off of me, and that it was OK for them to treat me like dirt. The message seemed to be that it was my fault for the misunderstanding, despite what was written on the ticket, and that they don't want anything to do with me, just because I canceled my order. I am glad I found someplace else to take my stones, because the people at Antrobus were very rude to me.
I mean, come on! The least they could have done was call me to ask if I would be bringing in the deposit soon! I wonder how long this could have gone on if I hadn't stopped by there.
My advice is if you can't find anywhere else to take your jewelry, be prepared to weather their haughty attitude and unprofessional business practices.
