Dental Examination
An Emergency Exam – Your child will receive an emergency oral exam when they first arrive at our office. This measure helps us learn the source and extent of their problem. Plus, it confirms the best way to relieve your kiddo’s pain.
X-rays
The dental X-Rays used today are much safer than former devices. But you may still wonder if they’re actually necessary. By the time your child reaches the age of 2 or 3, these additional images can give Dr. Barefield a clearer look at what is happening beneath the gums. Examining all aspects of their smile, these X-Rays can provide a clear picture should your child be at risk for cavities.
Oral Cancer Screening
Every six months, we’ll also conduct an oral cancer screening. We’ll inspect their mouth in search of common symptoms of this disease, such as red and white patches in the mouth and oral wounds that won’t seem to heal. If we do spot anything, we’ll refer them to a specialist for a biopsy and further testing just in case.

Teeth Cleaning
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends bringing your child in for a routine checkup and cleaning every six months. Orthodontics
You’re right, baby teeth are not permanent, and they will fall out eventually; however, these primary teeth play a larger role in how permanent teeth emerge. Should your child lose a tooth too early, this can cause problems for the adult tooth when it tries to erupt. How? After graduating with her doctorate from Baylor Dental College in 1990, Dr. Ramial was accepted into a one-year program of Advanced Education in General Dentistry with the United States Army. Upon the completion of the residency program, she served the dental needs of U.S. servicemen and women (and their dependents) in both Oklahoma and Germany for several more years before leaving the military.
