I took a ring in to get a simple sizing job done. The ring then fit perfectly, but I noticed a stone was missing from it! I pointed it out to the lady. She took the ring into the back and returned a couple minutes later. The stone was back in the setting, but the prongs had been smashed over the stone. They were no longer symmetrical with the rest of the prongs. Moreover, a nearby stone had been scratched or gouged. I pointed these things out and was told that the prongs had to be that way in order to prevent the stone from falling out again. I asked how likely it was that other stones would fall out. She said that any one of them could fall out at any time. If that were true, I would expect that a reputable place would tell me that up front when they are looking at the ring, or at least when they were done, just as a warning to me. For them to say that only after the prongs were ruined made me feel suspicious. She made no comment about the scratch that had happened and said nothing could be done about the prongs. I just left and took my ring to another jeweler, who repaired my ring very well but the work cost me a lot of money, far more than I paid for the resizing. I took the ring back to Classic Jewelers and told them that they had resized my ring but damaged it in the process and told me they couldn’t fix it, so I had to pay someone else to fix it. I asked for my money back. I was told they could give me a store credit but no money. He asked how much I had paid and I said forty-two something dollars. As he was writing, I took out the receipt to see the exact amount. I told him $42.80. He had already written $40. When I told him the exact amount, he said something about tax, but said okay, whatever, and crossed out the $40 and wrote $42. To damage a ring, say you can’t fix it, and refuse to give my money back but instead keep the money tied up in the store is unacceptable – and not to make the credit for the amount I paid?? A refund is perfectly reasonable. I didn’t even give them the bill for the damage that was done due to their work. I had to pay much more for the ring than I ever bargained for. I won’t be back, and neither will my family members.
Unfortunately, with these things, it’s their word against mine. I suspect if I hear from them again it won’t be a satisfactory response, but someone else can now take into consideration my experience. I hope it’s helpful to other customers.
