Loss of consciousness may occur with a concussion but is not a typical feature of most concussions. During a concussion, there are biochemical changes within the brain that cause temporary or even longstanding injury. Repetitive concussions can result in permanent changes in personality and cognitive abilities. After a concussion, emergency care should be sought immediately. Post-concussion syndrome is a term used to describe persistent symptoms that continue for weeks to months after the occurrence.
Electrocardiogram
A sleep study (or polysomnogram) is similar to an EEG or electrocardiogram but makes 16 different measurements of the brain and body while one is asleep. This test is not invasive. The test begins at night when you go to sleep and lasts to the morning as would a normal night of sleep.

Ultrasound
Ultrasound imaging is a noninvasive medical test that helps the physician diagnose and treat medical conditions. Vascular ultrasound uses sound waves to create real-time pictures of the arteries and veins to evaluate the body’s circulatory system and to help to identify blockages in vessels and detect blood clots. The Doppler ultrasound study is a technique that evaluates blood flow through a blood vessel. Ultrasound provides a picture of soft tissues that do not show up well on x-ray images. Ultrasound does not use ionizing radiation and has no harmful effects. Little or no special preparation is required for the performance of an ultrasound. Leave jewelry at home and wear loose, comfortable clothing.
MRI
The history will cover multiple possible medical illnesses and the neurological examination will observe the patient at rest as well as their ability to follow simple movements during testing. Diagnostic testing such as MRI or CT scanning may be required to determine the underlying cause of dizziness. Since dizziness can have various etiologies, other specialists (e.g., cardiology or ENT) may be required.

Carotid ultrasound uses sound waves to create real-time pictures of the arteries and locate blockages. Doppler is a special ultrasound technique that can detect areas of restricted flow in the artery. Other tests, such as computed tomography angiography (CTA), magnetic resonance angiography (MRA), and cerebral angiography also provide pictures of the carotid arteries.
