With rheumatoid arthritis, the synovium becomes thick and inflamed. As a result, too much fluid is created to lubricate the joints. This, in turn, causes a chronic inflammation issue that results in damage to the surrounding cartilage. Total loss of the cartilage, chronic pain, and joint stiffness are all common due to this condition. Rheumatoid arthritis often affects women more than men at a rate of 3 to 1. In blood platelet injection therapy, a small blood sample is taken from the patient and placed in a centrifuge that spins to create the PRP. The process takes only a few minutes, and is meant to increase the amount of platelets and growth factors that will help speed up the injury’s healing process and decrease pain. The solution is injected into the targeted area, and may sometimes use an ultrasound to help.

Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive joint procedure in which a small incision is made in the joint so a small instrument with a camera lens can be inserted to diagnose and treat the problem. Compared to open surgery and a joint replacement, you will have fewer complications and a shorter recovery time but not every case can have an arthroscopy.
Hip Replacement
Hip replacement surgery involves replacing the femur (head of the thigh bone) and the acetabulum (hip socket). Typically, the artificial ball and stem is made of a very sturdy metal, and the artificial socket is made of a durable, medical-grade plastic called polyethylene. Hip replacements usually occur when a patient experiences a hip fracture or experience severe pain because of arthritis.

My last surgery was on my right knee, and when I came back for the follow-up visit, I expressed to him that I was so pleased with him and the entire staff, and asked if he could recommend a foot doctor who could help me. In 2005, I had major surgery on all 10 toes - both feet. I had bunions and hammer toes. I was not aware that you had a doctor who could do this, so I went elsewhere. My doctor did a great job in straightening out the toes, but from walking with my toes turned under, I had large bumps on top of them after they were straightened. These bumps rubbed on the inside of my shoes and caused the skin to be rubbed off (blisters) on tops of 6 toes. I had to wrap them in bandages, and could only wear slides with the heel and toe out.

Dr. Kleiman is a Board Certified Foot surgeon by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. He completed a three year residency program in the Philadelphia, PA area for Foot and Ankle surgery. Dr. Kleiman does surgery at Gulf Coast Hospital, Lee Memorial Hospital and Riverwalk Surgery Center and practices at both Ft. Myers and Estero Locations. He provides foot care at several Lee County Nursing Facilities.
