In a Chapter 7 bankruptcy proceeding, you can permanently discharge, or wipe out, some debts. Other debts such as tax obligations, student loan payments and child support arrearages cannot be wiped out in a Chapter 7 proceeding, but can be dealt with through a Chapter 13.
