Founded in 1894, Dominican Sisters of the Grand Rapids Diocese is an independent congregation. Dominican Sisters are authorized to change from cloistered nuns to active-contemplative status, legally from Nuns to Sisters. The congregation offers various services and programs for the impoverished class, children and women. It operates the St. John's Home, a diocesan institution for the care of orphans. Dominican Sisters provided a wide range of social work and health care activities through its ministries within the Dominican Chapel. It offers various membership options, such as vowed membership, nonvowed associations and Dominician volunteers. Dominican Sisters operates from the city of Grand Rapids in Michigan.
