General Info
Pearson Animal Hospital is a small animal facility that has been providing exceptional pet healthcare to pet owners in Hartselle, Decatur, Cullman, Falkville, Danville, and the surrounding areas of north central Alabama since 1975. We are truly dedicated to the animals in our care and make every effort to diagnose and treat even the most difficult cases in a cost-effective manner.
Our services and facilites are designed to assist in routine preventative care for young, healthy pets; early detection and treatment of disease as your pet ages; and complete medical and surgical care as necessary during his or her lifetime.
One of the best ways to preserve your pet’s overall health is to provide consistent dental hygiene. Pearson Animal Hospital offers dental exams, cleaning, polishing, and tooth extractions.
Vaccination
To stay ahead of the curve with your pet’s health and to help avoid serious health problems later in your pet’s life, we recommend annual check-ups and consistent preventative care. It is always better for your pet’s health and more economical for you to prevent complications from progressive disorders, heartworms, other parasites, and infectious diseases before they get established. This can be accomplished through regular checkups, vaccinations, and maintaining consistent preventative protection from heartworms, fleas, and ticks.
Nutritional Counseling
Comprehensive Examination
At Pearson Animal Hospital, we believe that a key factor to keeping your pet healthy and happy is regular wellness care. We recommend annual check-ups and consistent preventive care to help alleviate serious health problems later in your pet’s life. Annual exams help us establish an overall health profile of your pet and are useful for tracking trends and being aware of potential health problems before they become difficult and costly to treat. Regular check-ups can also detect disease in the early stages, improving your pet’s ability to fight back.
We also offer recommendations for prevention and nutrition guidelines that are appropriate for your pet’s specific needs. We will develop preventive protocols for your pet regarding the best ways to control fleas and ticks in your house, your yard, and on your pet. We will provide guidance for your pet’s nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance, and performance. We can also spay or neuter your pet when the time is right, not just to prevent unwanted litters, but to lessen the development of cancer in both genders of dogs and cats.
Pain Management
To ensure your pet’s safety, we carefully screen each patient prior to each surgery so that we can check for any abnormalities or conditions that may be problematic. This also enables us to tailor anesthetics specifically for your pet. Additionally, we monitor vital signs throughout all stages of surgery and recovery as well as both pre and post-operative pain management.
Heartworm and intestinal parasite prevention is one of the most important things that pet parents can do for their companion pets. Heartworms are spread by mosquitoes and can lead to heart failure and respiratory distress. Since mosquitoes manage to find their way inside our homes, indoor as well as outdoor pets are at risk of heartworm infection. Once a dog is infected, the treatment for heartworms is expensive, and for some pets, it can be dangerous. Taking preventive measures against heartworm infection is a much better and more cost-effective option than treating heartworm disease.
Periodontal Disease Treatment
Neglecting your pet’s oral hygiene can lead to periodontal disease involving problems with teeth and gums. Once periodontal disease is established, the constant exposure to these bacteria can potentially cause damage to major organs of the body including the heart, liver, and kidneys.
At Pearson Animal Hospital, we perform routine surgical services including a wide variety of soft tissue surgeries such as biopsies, excisions of abnormal growths, removal of foreign materials causing obstruction in the digestive tract, and removal of bladder and urethral obstructions to name but a few.
Spaying and Neutering
Spaying and neutering help with animal population control and prevent unwanted pets. Just as importantly, spaying and neutering can improve the overall health of your pet, and help in avoiding certain reproductive diseases, and some types of cancer.
At Pearson Animal Hospital in Hartselle, Alabama, we believe that the best way to prolong the relationship you share with your pet is to identify disease processes early and prevent the progression of chronic illness, before it becomes a problem. To keep tabs on your pet’s overall health, it is important to maintain annual exams and bloodwork. We recommend an examination by your veterinarian every 12 months for healthy pets under the age of 7, and every 6 months for healthy senior patients. Those pets with chronic disease or mobility issues may require examination on a more frequent basis. We also recommend annual blood work profiles to provide a continuous record for our veterinarians to identify trends and specific areas to focus on in an effort to prolong the duration and quality of life of our patients.
X-Ray
Pearson Animal Hospital has your pet’s best interest at heart at all times. We make sure that we stay up to date on the latest techniques and treatments so that we can diagnose and treat your pet most accurately. A most effective tool, digital radiography enables our veterinarians to safely and quickly assess the status of injuries or diseases that may be affecting your pet.
Microchipping
Veterinary clinics, animal shelters, and animal control facilities have scanners that can detect and read microchips. All stray animals are scanned for microchips, and if one is found, a call to the pet recovery database will alert the microchip company that a lost pet has been identified.
