This assessment is appropriate for individuals who are experiencing difficulty swallowing, swallowing changes associated with head and neck cancer, a sensation of something "stuck" in the throat, frequent pneumonias, and unintentional, significant weight loss.
Primary Care

Please remember, if you have already undergone testing, or have already been evaluated by a specialist for the same or similar condition, we prefer that you hand-carry copies of all pertinent medical records with you. This is especially important regarding radiographic studies; including CT scans or MRI scans. Please bring copies of your CT and MRI reports if you have them, but more importantly, please bring copies of the studies, preferably in CD format.
Radiology
This study is performed off-site in a radiology department. The patient is asked to eat and drink various consistencies of food and liquid that has been mixed with barium, which allows visualization of the swallowing structures and function in real-time while the patient swallows. The exam itself typically takes 5-10 minutes.
Computed Tomography
When the nose becomes inflamed, the inflammation can extend into the sinuses causing sinusitis. Symptoms of sinusitis include stuffy nose, thick nasal mucus, postnasal drainage, facial pressure, and a decreased sense of smell. If medications do not improve these symptoms, further workup with a CT scan can help determine if endoscopic sinus surgery would be beneficial.
Radiation Therapy
Dr. Malone is a member of several national organizations including the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery, the American Head and Neck Society, the American College of Surgeons, the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group, and the Pennsylvania Medical Society. He was also on the Oncology Committee at the St. John’s Hospital and serves as board member for the Ball-Chatham Educational Foundation.

General Surgery
After completing a six-year residency in General Surgery and Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at Penn State University-Hershey Medical Center, Dr. Shapiro completed a two year fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. He has published extensively in the field of Pediatric Otolaryngology and is a member of the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology. He lectures on Pediatric Otolaryngology topics at the local, regional, and national level.
Ear Surgery
I have been a patient of this practice for many many years. I have no complaints, everyone is so very friendly. I truly get the best care from Dr.Forndaley he has done several ear surgeries over the years on me. He is very caring, after my last major ear surgery he called me every day for several days to see how I was doing. I'm now seeing Dr. Isaacson for a cochlear implant, he has been so professional explains everything that needs to be done. When I walk into the office and the gentleman at the desk greets you in such a kind and caring way just makes you feel very welcome at the practice. The one day when I went a few months ago and did not see him there, I got worried that he left. I'm glad he is still there.
Robotic Surgery
Dr. James P. Malone is board certified in otolaryngology with subspecialty training and expertise in the treatment of head and neck tumors, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, and reconstructive surgery of the head and neck. Dr. Malone also performs minimally invasive Transoral Robotic Surgery (TORS) using the daVinci Surgical System for patients with head and neck cancer and obstructive sleep apnea.
