She completed her family medicine residency at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield.Dr. Shelton has always been interested in health care. "I always wanted to find a way to help people," she says. "One of the best things about being a doctor is getting to collaborate with a patient to figure out how to best solve their problems."After shadowing a family practitioner in college, she realized her passion for getting to know patients and caring for them throughout their lives. "That's my goal—to take care of a whole family in different stages of life," she says. "No matter where they are, I want to meet them there."In her free time, Dr. Shelton enjoys spending time with her extended family, swimming, working on home improvement projects and playing board games.
