Lake Trust Credit Union

I paid my cleaning woman, as usual, with a check drawn on my account at Lake Trust Credt Union, and she took the check to their nearest branch to cash it.

The Lake Trust Credit Union charged her a $5 fee to cash the check, even though the check was drawn on the Lake Trust Credit Union. So I have had to write her checks for $5 more to cover this unjust fee.



When I protested, "Barbara," a Member Service Representative, replied that they implemented the fee on 11/1/10 "in order to avoid our institution from being used solely as a check cashing institution." Isn't cashing their own checks one of their reasons for existence?



Many people who clean houses or do yard work for a living can't afford to open their own checking account, so this fee is in effect a tax on the poorest of the poor. I quickly found out that the Michigan State Credit Union does not charge people to cash checks drawn on their accounts. I have moved my account there and the move, while a bother, will save me $10/month.

We often place higher trust in a credit union, thinking that they are for the people and by the people. I have place my money in banks and in Credit Unions and Lake Trust Credit Union does not live up to it's name! I never seen a Credit Union so FEE happy in my life and they work with you on no level. I watched a lady be mistreated in the lobby of the credit union and she actually had a legitiment concern. This New named credit union was NuUnion credit union and had a lot of complaints and even broke their own policies. They took on the new name hoping to hide from shame, but if you work very hard for every dollar you earn do NOT trust Lake Trust Credit Union with your money and remember they say FREE but there is always a hidden FEE! Dont be dumb and trust your money to this credit union. You've been warned! Good Luck
