I brought our Green Cheek Conure (Jensen) in for an office visit on Wed (3/19/14) to remove a string that had gotten wrapped around his leg from a play toy, and was quoted $90 for the procedure.
After removing the string from the bird’s leg Dr. Romagnano took him off to another room and invited me to watch, saying she needed to cut his leg to relieve whatever pressure that had built up from the swelling. The entire time she was bossing her staff around in a condescending tone, along with her son who was in the room, and when I shared with the doctor that one of our dogs died recently her only response was, “Oh, why is that?”
At no point was I told there would be any additional charges, and all I was asked to do was sign a surgery consent that asked if I wanted the bird chipped for an additional cost, to which I stated no.
After the doctor finished (maybe 30 minutes) I was presented with a bill for nearly $600 by her assistant in the lobby, and they’ve refused to release the bird until I pay. He’s now been in there for three nights and I have no idea what additional charges are being tacked on to the bill, since the doctor still has never called to back to discuss it, while I’ve been told multiple times she would. The only people I’m able to talk to are her assistants, who state the doctor claims she reviewed the charges with me, which is an outright lie and I’m even willing to take a lie detector test.
This is such an extreme response from a vet that I don’t know what to make of it, and my two children are devastated by the situation, because they don't understand why Jensen didn't come home. The bird only cost $199, which I stated on the new patient paperwork, so I was hesitant to even spend even $90 over a string, let alone $600 given I'm currently unemployed and have two toddlers to feed, as well as another dog and cat.

Took my bird to “Dr” April and she was of little help. She glossed over the original problem but offered to run a battery of unrelated tests. My impression afterwords was that April performed these tests and issued meds for no other reason then to run the bill up to obscene levels. I left her office without any resolution of the original problem and meds for a list of BS phantom aliments.
As another reviewer has already reported April over-treats and overcharges BIGTIME.

Is Dr. April a good Vet.? Yes. That being said, I brought my bird to her and believe she over-treated and over-charged. You had better have deep pockets to be seen at this office!

This is by far the best vet practice in the area, imo. With a wonderful office staff, caring techs and honest and dedicated vets - I can't imagine entrusting my animals to anyone else. The fees are fair and straightforward; they give honest opinions and advice - and no pressure. I like to take my time and make informed decisions on certain vaccine protocls, age at spaying, etc and they have always been patient, understanding and provided unbiased information. I truly trust them and would recommend them to anyone who is looking for true bedside manner in a vet office - for both the pets and the owners :) I rmember one Sunday afternoon, Dr April came in for emergency treatment of my frenchie puppy for pneumonia, without hesitation. Dr Martin, his staff and Dr April went out of their way to lovingly care for her - and my family - during her week stay there. We came and visited her every day; they updated us daily on her condition; answered a million questions and called to check up on her once we got to take her home...it was the silver lining on a very scary experience for us. My bill was half what I would have paid at my previous vet - and for substantially better quality care all around. I cannot say enough what a wonderful practice this is and what a difference they've made to our family and our three dogs. Especially for people who've had a bad vet experience, you really should give this office a try; they are a different kind of practice, staffed and run by very special people.

Animal Health Clinic is simply 'The Best". I would reccomend their services to anyone with a need for animal care or emergency exotic animal treatment. Dr April treated my pet and it was pampered by the entire staff. Exotic emergency animal treatment, grooming and quality care for all animals including house pets is what I experienced.
