Mickey Finn's used to be a quasi-Irish theme local tavern and later brewpub. The hallmark for me was good food and drink at a fair price in a pleasant atmosphere.
Somehow management got the idea that it would be good for business to change the character from a cozy dive bar to a slightly more upscale clone of "Bennigans", etc. attracting the "family" crowd.
If that wasn't bad enough for the dive bar lover such as myself, apparently they feel that the "Sports Bar" genre is where the money is at these days, so when they recently moved south a block or so on Milwaukee Ave, that's the theme that was selected for the second reboot of Mickey Finn's.
Perhaps this is what they feel is needed to stay in business, but I found the layout of the new space to be nothing short of a disaster. Loud to the point of impossible to have a conversation, no microbrew beer available when opened (and still not producing as of the date of this review), limited menu at least when we visited. I honestly cannot understand why anyone would go here other than they DO have a large number of HD TV's for the sports enthusiast.
I hope that when the "new" wears off that the management makes some much needed changes or I can foresee Mickey's closing within a year.

Great burgers and microbrews. Try the hefe in the summer and the amber in the winter. Awesome burgers and friendly staff. The pizza is really good too.
