I've had a very similar problem with the Jewelry Exchange/ Factory in Livonia. purchased my wedding set there in 1999. My diamond came loose twice, so the third time I took it in they said they had to send it away and they did. after almost 8 weeks and endless calling they admitted that their repair in California had melted my setting! the small chip diamonds we're gone somewhere but they had my original stone sent back to the Livonia store. so when I went into the store I was told I had to purchase another setting to put it in but it would only cost me around $80! they melt my setting but I've got to pay $80 more for another one and it isn't the one I got married in! so I agree and come home with a different setting and my original stone in it. since then I replaced the chip stones twice and then last fall I look down at my ring and my center stone was gone! the crown broke with a prong and my center stone was missing and never found. I contacted them the other day and as usual they want me to come in and purchase another diamond!! Really! shoddy workmanship and definitely don't care if the customer's happy. Seems like it doesn't matter where you go, the quality isn't there.

This place is a RIPOFF!!! I had a broken bracelet that took 3 weeks to repair a link. When I went to pick it up I was informed that an additional link had to be replaced but the store did not contact me to ask for my approval (but of course I would have agreed) the mgr said that because I was not contacted they would not charge an additional fees. Of course they shouldn't. The kicker was the sales lady that was helping me got totally pissed because the mgr would not charge me the xtra fee! I couldn't believe it! She wouldn't even help me put the bracelet back on. Oh and by the way my bracelet broke again 3 DAYS LATER! I found another business and they only charged 15.00. My husband purchased a ring from them once I saw the ring I knew he got ripped off, Before we left the store with the ring we wanted to return it but of course they only give store credit and they charged him another 90.00 to size the ring! Finally we took the ring to be appraised and of the price was much lower than what he paid. He could've got a lot more for his money somewhere else.

My fiance proposed on New Years Eve 2009. My ring was beautiful. The ring and diamond were purchased at different stores. Livonia Jewelry Factory was where the diamond was purchased. The diamond was a great value for how wonderful the quality is... the problem was they said they would have no problem setting the diamond in a ring that they did not sell at their store. 2 days after wearing my ring, the diamond shifted. Terrified I was going to lose my diamond I stopped wearing it. I took it for an appraisal and it was recommended that I continue not wearing my ring until I get it looked at by a jeweler. I took it to the store my ring (not the diamond) was purchased. They stated that the diamond was set incorrectly and it was going to cost around $250 for them to send it out to rebuild the head of the ring that the diamond sits in. When I called The Jewelry Factory they told me to bring in the ring because they wanted to see how poorly the diamond was actually set (a reasonable request). When I drove 30 mins to show them the ring I was told nothing was wrong. Then after a few mins it was acknowledged that it looked like the diamond shifted. Then the woman asked if I hit it on anything. I wore the ring for 2 days, I was offended they tried to blame it on me. They said they would reset it if I wanted. NO THANKS! The jeweler that the ring was purchased from could not even reset it. That is why he needed to send it to the place that particular ring is designed and made, and they thought I would just agree to let them set have another try at setting it! Then the man the sold my fiance the diamond came up to me and said that my fiance specifically requested the diamond be set low and that is why they had trouble setting it. My fiance would have no clue the difference between setting the diamond high or low. He would never have said that; again trying to put blame on us! I left there upset, with a $50 gift card (their way of repaying my fiancé's fee for them setting the diamond) and went back to the jeweler that the ring was purchased from so they could send it out for repairs. In the end, we spent more money, and the first two weeks of being engaged I am ringless (and every engaged woman knows the ring is the first thing people ask to see when you tell them you are engaged.)

I was also shocked to see that the store isn't the one you see in the commercials. Beyond that, the lady that helped my fiance and I was excellent. Your experience here probably depends a lot on who helps you. This store had by far the best prices on loose diamonds compared to the other stores we visited. The other thing that we liked (especially my fiance) was that there isn't sales commission, so the lady helping us was very relaxed and not pushy at all. My fiance bought the diamond and they had it set and sized within two hours! Bottom line... don't expect to be pampered when you go here, but if you want an exceptional deal, definitely consider this store. PS - she got my ring in $1500 under budget!
