Many people wait until a problem arises before calling the dentist. Preventive visits, such as bi-annual cleanings and exams, tend to improve overall health. And this allows patients to spend less on dental care over time. Many costly problems are prevented or diagnosed early on, when treatment is easiest.
X-rays
During exams we look for early signs of dental disease so that treatment can be completed before urgent problems or pain arise. Dental x-rays are taken on a regular basis to help detect cavities or infection that may not be visible otherwise.
Routine dental cleanings and exams help to keep your mouth clean, healthy, and feeling great. Professional cleanings allow us an opportunity to...
Dental Sealants
We will also check molars and place sealants if necessary, which is a protective resin coating placed in the deep grooves of teeth to help prevent decay.
There are several different types of materials that can be used for a dental filling. The most common is the composite resin. It has tooth colored plastic and glass materials for a more cosmetic appearance. Silver amalgam fillings are another alternative, and would typically be placed on a back molar.
Resin Composite
When you come to the office for your filling appointment, you’ll be given a local anesthetic to numb the area for comfort. The decayed or worn area will be cleaned and prepped. Typically a composite resin (white filling material), will be placed in the preparation. A light will be used to “cure” the material so that it becomes hard. A dental drill is then used to shape the filling material into the natural curves of the tooth. Your bite will be tested and adjusted to ensure that chewing forces are naturally distributed against the opposing teeth.
Crowns
At Sweet Dental, we offer a variety of prosthetic treatments. Fixed prosthetics includes placement of crowns (caps) or bridges. These are used to save a tooth/teeth, which otherwise might need to be removed.
Bridges
When a tooth is lost or must be removed, many patients are now choosing an implant restoration instead of traditional fixed bridges and dentures.
Treatments typically include a deep cleaning done under local anesthetic. In severe cases, periodontal surgery or extractions could be required. Early detection of periodontal disease can help prevent long-term complications and treatments.
If you’ve lost all your natural teeth, whether from decay, gum disease or injury, replacing missing teeth will benefit your overall health. Dentures will make it easier for you to eat and speak, as well as being able to confidently smile around friends and family.
Implants look and feel natural. They are easy to maintain with proper brushing and flossing. And they allow a single tooth to be replaced without impacting neighboring teeth.
