Flynn Construction was honored to receive the Remodeler of the Year award from the Builders Association of the Twin Cities. The award recognizes a company that demonstrates the highest level of professionalism in their business.
This Zen transformation took a typical 1960s walk out rambler in the architecturally diverse Tyrol Hills neighborhood and turned it into a sublimely modern Asian ranch. Three previous remodelings involved a screen porch addition, a Japanese conversion of a lower-level bath, and a kitchen remodel and entry edition. Flynn Construction worked closely with Wayne Branum of SALA Architects, as he designed this fourth and final phase delivering a cohesive culmination of the previous projects. The work consisted of a 200 square-foot addition above the garage as well as the enlargement and renovation of 460 sf of three existing bedrooms and baths. Confronted with the challenges of site, scale and budget, Wayne?s design and Flynn Construction?s high quality of work, brilliantly unified the whole by extending spaces and views and setting up a delightful dialogue with the surrounding landscape.
Bathroom Remodeling
This 1970’s rambler was due for a significant update to the kitchen and bathrooms. With three kids and a busy travel schedule, this family needed a space that would work well for making the most of precious family time at home. The existing dining room was separated from the kitchen by an extra stair to the basement. This was removed so that the front and back of the house could be open to each other, while also improving the connection to the living room. The extra-large garage was reduced in size, with some of the space being converted into a mudroom. And finally, the connection to the garage was transformed into a simple and spacious slate floored back entry, with improved access to an existing screened porch on the back of the house. The kitchen space is wide enough for a rolling island trolley, which can be put away during larger functions.
A modest addition, transformed the flow of this 1920's Minneapolis house. The new kitchen absorbed a previous sun room and the added 5' x 5' back entry providing much needed circulation from the dining room to the kitchen. The narrow sun room accommodated a run of cabinets and an island, while the exterior walls were kept free for large windows. The space expands to include the new back porch, making the room feel even more generous. An added benefit are the wonderful views of the family's urban back yard garden.
A 70's remodel took away from the style & character of this home located between Lake Calhoun & Lake of the Isles. The owner asked SALA Architects and Flynn Construction to re-design the front of the house by adding a front porch. The interior had a series of disconnected small spaces. Instead of removing walls & opening the space, the owner & architect created a centralized space that all the rooms could flow into. This was inspired by the owner's admiration of Mexican culture & his need to house some pieces of art from the region. Features all new Marvin windows & doors.

In 2007- 2008 Flynn Construction teamed up with another local remodeling company to remodel the home of a wounded Iraq veteran named Kyle Anderson. This effort was sponsored by the Builders Association of the Twin Cities along with their charitable arm the Builders Outreach Foundation and WCCO Radio. We completely remodeled Kyles entire home including moving the kitchen, three new bath rooms, all new windows and siding. The complete makeover was done to make Kyles life easier during his recovery and to say thank you to him and his family for his tremendous sacrifice he made for all of our freedom. In the spring of 2008 Kyles home was featured in the Parade of Homes Remodelers Showcase. We had a grand opening debut with Governor Pawlenty which was covered by many local media.
