NEVER AGAIN!!! We needed a whole new system including garage door and motor. We made the terrible decision to use Carmichael Overhead Doors and I am thoroughly disgusted by the way I was treated. If you want to be treated like you, as the paying customer, are in the wrong for the company’s mistakes, then feel free to go with these guys. I paid $1300 of my hard-earned money to be treated poorly and told that “some people’s standards are just too high and not attainable for anyone.” So somehow, their lack of professionalism, their lack of quality products, their lack of care for a quality job is MY PROBLEM. I will note, the garage door works fine and looks fine from far away, but I still get nauseous when I think of the way I was treated. Here’s my story: We made the decision to go use Carmichael Overhead Doors because of the professionalism we initially received from this company and also the promise of quality products. That couldn’t have been a less accurate representation of the service we received from there on after. The appointment window was set (one hour) and on the day we were to have the door installed, after I had taken five hours off from work, I received a phone call five minutes to the end of the window from the installer saying he was running late and would be there in about 20 minutes. An hour and a half later, he showed up. He did not even introduce himself – just said, “I’m here to install the door.” Once I opened up the existing garage door for him, he started throwing the materials for the new door onto the ground. After about two hours of work, the installer informed me he needed to run back to the shop to get a replacement battery for his drill and that he would be back in 15 minutes. In the meantime, I took a look at the existing ‘sections’ (of which I was so very rudely corrected by the manager. “It’s called a section. Not a panel.”), and noticed all three of them were very badly scratched. I was promised baked on paint. If this is baked on paint, then why would it be showing the metal throughout the entire section? So I call the office and am immediately met with a rude tone on the other end of the line. She tells me that it’s essentially my fault that the panels look like this because we had to have our door specially made because of the size. And informed me the installer would paint over it. I was mislead to believe I was receiving baked on paint. Once the installer returned (an hour later), he produced a white-out sized bottle and said, “Of course I will paint over the scuffs. I wouldn’t leave it looking bad.” Why would I have a “bad looking” door from the get-go? Anyway, the job was finished after complaints of the heat (which was also somehow my fault that they scheduled the afternoon appointment when it was over 100 degrees) and the door was ‘painted’ to the best of his ability (I’m guessing). IN addition, he left broken glass (no idea where that came from) and three screws all over our driveway. Thanks, because I wanted to clean up the mess the installer made. I had already told the rude woman on the phone I wouldn’t be paying for door before speaking with the manager (who was conveniently out of town that day). Monday afternoon came and I still hadn’t received a call from the manager, so I decided to call. He had conveniently just gotten back from my home. Weird. You went to my house without me home to discuss my issues with the door? He was rude, condescending and demeaning. He put everything back on me and said my standards just couldn’t be met and that he saw nothing wrong with the door. I guess if you’re blind, you wouldn’t notice all of the little metal specks showing through. I ended up paying $1300 for poor service and poor quality job. Not happy.
