Teeth Cleaning
If not cleaned out every 3-4 months, this periodontal bacteria can grow to a point where bone loss starts to occur again. This is why 3-4 month periodontal cleanings are very important.

Crowns
Crown Lengthening Procedure The "crown" is the part of a tooth visible above the gumline. Sometimes more of the tooth below the gums must be exposed to fill a cavity near the gumline or place a new crown on a broken tooth. "Crown lengthening" provides more tooth structure for this to be done. This helps to ensure that the restoration can be fitted properly by the dentist without causing gum irritation.
Bridges
Two or three implants can be placed adjacent to each other to retain multiples crowns. An implant supported bridge is a structure similar to a traditional dental bridge with the exception that it is supported by implants rather than natural teeth. Often there will be an implant for each tooth that is replaced and the crowns may be attached to each other for greater pressure distribution and stability. It is generally accepted that two implants can hold a three tooth bridge, three implants can hold a four or five tooth bridge and four to eight implants are required to hold longer bridges or full-arch bridges.

Root Canal Treatment
Normally gum tissue surrounds and protects the delicate roots of your teeth. Exposed tooth roots are prone to tooth decay, root canals, discoloration and actual jawbone loss. All of this can lead to tooth loss in advanced cases.

Deep Cleaning
The upper level of infection in the pockets around your teeth can be removed using specialized instruments. This procedure is called, “Scaling and Root Planing", “Phase One Treatment" or “Initial Therapy". It is done under local anesthesia and is quite different from the routine dental cleaning or “deep cleaning" that is traditionally done in the general dentist's office.

Dentures
Dentures have to be taken out and soaked at night. During the day, they can also look unnatural and rub painfully. Dentures and partials make it difficult or impossible to eat certain foods.

Dental Implants
A critical factor in determining whether an implant can be placed or not is the amount of bone available to support it. After tooth loss, the underlying bone tends to dissolve, or shrink away, without constant stimulation from the forces of chewing, etc.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
Excellent, everyone from the minute you walk in the door has a smile and kind words. It's a very scary experience to go through, but if I had to go through it I'm happy I did it with them. I received two phones calls the night after my oral surgery. One from Ellen, and one from Dr Kayne to see how I was doing. Just taking that few minutes to reach out and inquire how I was doing was wonderful. I use to fear anyone touching my teeth, not any more.
Tooth Extractions
Ridge Augmentation
Sometimes after an extraction, a sunken spot or concave appearance will develop in your gum line. This looks unsightly and can also jeopardize the appearance of a bridge that goes over the area. Grafting material can be inserted under the gum to fill out this depression.
Bone Grafting
Your jawbone is what supports your teeth and gums. Unfortunately, severe periodontal infection dissolves parts of your jawbone. This bone loss can eventually lead to the loss of your teeth. The first step of treatment is to remove the periodontal disease, which halts the bone loss. Then we repair the damage that has occurred. In many cases, various bone grafting techniques can be used to re-grow some of the jawbone that was lost.

Orthodontics
Dr. Kayne received his D.D.S. from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in Columbus, Ohio in 1969. He completed the advanced dental education program in orthodontics and periodontics at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia in 1979. Dr. Kayne is one of only a very small number of dentists in the United States who is a specialist in both orthodontics and periodontics. He has extensive training in dental implant therapy and has been placing dental implants since 1989.

Having served his country in the United States Navy, Dr. Kayne practiced general dentistry in Yokosuka, Japan from 1969 to 1971. He also practiced general dentistry in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida from 1971 to 1976. After completing his orthodontic and periodontal program, he taught full-time at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry before starting his specialty practice in Delaware in 1981.
