Steven G. Lester, M.D., F.A.C.R.O., was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. He received both his undergraduate and medical degrees from Louisiana State University in Shreveport, Louisiana. He completed his internship in radiation oncology, followed by his residency training in radiation oncology at Indiana University Hospitals, where he also served as chief resident. While at IU, Dr. Lester wrote several research papers on testicular cancer and Intraoperative Radiotherapy. After completing his radiation oncology training, Dr. Lester returned to his home state of Louisiana to join the Department of Radiation Oncology at Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans. During his time at Ochsner, Dr. Lester served as the Assistant Director of Ochsner Cancer Institute as well as Acting Chairman of Radiation Oncology. He was also involved in clinical research, and spoke at several seminars. Dr. Lester has been serving the Central Florida community since December of 1988. In 2004, Dr. Lester with his partner, John D. Looper, MD., founded Central Florida Cancer Care Center in Sanford, Florida. His outside interests include LSU Football, New Orleans Saints, tennis, spending time with his wife and two daughters and visiting his son who is a Radiation Oncologist in training at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Lester is board certified in radiation oncology, a fellow of American College of Radiation Oncology, and serves on the Executive Committee of the Association of Independent Doctors.
