My dog went to Furkidz for five years. I started taking here there when she was a little puppy. Over the years the staff has come and gone. The good ones never stayed. There were rumors of course as to why but I tried to never give them deptful thought. My dog was always taken care of, very well up until the last year or so. Lots more employees went out the revolving door and I started questioning this business. I spoke to former and current employees. Over the years there have been dogs die there, (anyone can see the published public reviews--the one I am referring to is on Yelp), and dogs run away (which was just posted on Facebook several months ago and tied to the Furkidz Pet Hotel and Spa Facebook page by the owners of the dog who got out of the fence and ran away).
Around COVID there were a couple of employees let go not by the owner but by the assistant manager. The name of the game at Furkidz is not about people who care about animals; it's about money. These same employees, like others that either left or were let go, were basically told they better never say a negative word about Furkidz or what truly goes on behind closed doors; because if they did she would come after them.
My dog was there for 5 years and I was NEVER allowed to tour the back of the facility where daycamp and boarding was. There was always an excuse.
In the last year and a half my dog has developed pancreatitis. We had her scheduled to board for fall break.. Furkidz has webcams you can buy to see your dog but they turn off promptly at 10pm and come back on usually by 8am supposedly due to contract. My dog has pancreatic attacks, mostly at night, and so I wanted to keep her safe and ensure she didn't lay there and die because no one was there. I asked if the webcam time could be changed and left on all night for extra money. When that was a no I offered to buy a top of the line webcam for her suite and donate it to the business. Bailey has stayed there tons of times both for boarding and daycamp; and prior to my request for additional monitoring there have been no issues. However, once I ask for any type of extra assistance it's a liabilty. I was told no that a private webcam was a "liability ". When I questioned it and how it wasn't a liability for her to do nothing Dena didn't like that. I sought a legal answer to the situation because it didn't seemed right for her to be so against it. Turns out she could do that since it's a private business. BUT how she would want to not care about a dog that had been going there for five years was beyond me. She claimed the pancreatic attacks were just too much and that my dog could not only board there anymore because it was a liability. Plus she also couldn't come to daycamp anymore. ALL because I questioned her "liabilty" answer and her unwillingness to work with me; a loyal 5 year plus customer who invested at least $300 a month for 5 years. Do the math. That's over $18,000 in five years!!!
The website claims to have a "top quality dog suites in a cage free environment." I personally took my kennel several times because they needed it for space for my dog to take a nap at daycamp. There are plenty of cages and kennels in the back. The whole facility is not "suites". However, no one knows this or can prove it but old employees and current employees can. However, they have been threatened to silence and loyalty and don't have the money to go up against this business owner. There is proof in pictures out there
It says under amenities that all dogs are "assessed by their qualified staff". Define qualified. There is no regular training of employees. Next is the "progress report/verbal briefing (upon departure) to let you know how your furkid enjoyed their visit". In the beginning I got daily updates. In the last few years it was like pulling teeth to find out anything just for daycamp.
There are no indoor play yards, only outside play yards. And really only a couple are taken care of for daily use.
