Otolaryngologists are physicians trained in the medical and surgical management and treatment of patients with diseases and disorders of the ear, nose, throat (ENT), and related structures of the head and neck. Dr. Acker served his internship in Otolaryngology/Facial Plastics Surgery at UMDNJ-SOM’s Kennedy Health System, followed by his residency at that same institution. He is currently board certified in Otolaryngology/Facial Plastics Surgery. He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology and the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Benjamin Daesoon Acker D.O. was the recipient of multiple awards during medical school for academic excellence and graduated at the top of his class. He won an award during internship for teaching students, and he was also the recipient of the Patrick Murray award at the end of his residency for achieving the highest In-Service exam score in the nation out of all Osteopathic residents. He has always found it important to have a strong foundation of medical knowledge in order to provide better and evidence based patient care.

Endoscopy
The ENT specialist may perform a procedure called a laryngoscopy or nasal endoscopy with a thin flexible instrument that has a lighted magnifying tip which is passed through the nose. This additional procedure is essential to discover the cause of voice and breathing problems, ear or throat pain, difficulty swallowing, narrowing, blockages or even tumors or cancer.

Patients who are found to need tertiary care will be quickly and seamlessly seen by the specialist at Cooper Barnabas Medical Center within 48 hours. Medical records sent seamlessly through our secure Electronic Health Record Systems. Following treatment at CBMC, patients transition back for aftercare treatment in their own neighborhood ENT and Allergy Associates office.

He also oversaw the growth of Regional Market programming with direct responsibility of new facility expansion, including strategic market development, clinical, administrative, and financial programming, and facility design.
