Crowns
In certain cases, your surgeon may decide to perform a coronectomy procedure to minimize the risk of inferior alveolar nerve injury. This involves removing the crown or top portion of the tooth only and leaving the roots buried. Uncommonly, the root remnant can migrate, necessitating a second procedure to remove the root.
Bridges
This patient had a long-standing dental bridge that failed. There was significant bone loss in the proposed implant sites that required major bone grafting and tissue grafting.

Root Canal Treatment
A root canal can treat a tooth with diseased or damaged pulp. However, sometimes the tooth cannot completely heal after a root canal and infection spreads into the surrounding bone. An apicoectomy, also known as root-end surgery, cleans out the infection in the bone so that the tooth can be saved and not removed.
Apicoectomy
In addition to saving an infected tooth, patients with a root tip crowding into the space of an adjacent tooth may require an apicoectomy to prevent further problems.

Dentures
A small amount of bleeding is to be expected following the operation. If bleeding occurs, place a gauze pad directly over the bleeding socket and apply biting pressure for 30 minutes. If bleeding continues, a moist tea bag can be used for 30 minutes. If bleeding occurs, avoid hot liquids, exercise, and elevate the head. If bleeding persists, call our office immediately. If given a denture, do not remove immediate denture unless the bleeding is severe. Expect some oozing around the side of the denture.
Overdentures
In addition, implant-retained overdentures better mimic your natural teeth, as they are secure even while speaking and chewing. Their structure allows you to comfortably chew various foods while protecting your bite and jaw.

Dental Implants
The gold standard for replacing lost teeth is dental implant surgery, which involves small titanium posts being placed in the gums to serve as artificial tooth roots. Dental prostheses are attached to these implants, restoring your smile’s form and function.

Jaw Surgery
Orthognathic surgery, or corrective jaw surgery, addresses a jaw misalignment from abnormal growth that causes a bad bite. These skeletal issues are recognized by an orthodontist, who will refer for this procedure when they feel that corrective jaw surgery is necessary for ideal tooth relationships and smile.

Dr. Matthew Dudziak was born in Chicago, Il. He attended the University of California at Riverside and following graduation, he attended New York University College of Dentistry. After earning his DDS degree, Dr. Dudziak completed his medical school training and oral and maxillofacial surgery training at the Louisiana State University in New Orleans. He also completed an entire year of General Surgery at Charity Hospital of New Orleans. Following the completion of his residency in 2006, he completed his fellowship in pediatric oral and maxillofacial surgery at the prestigious University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 2007. Dr. Dudziak then entered into private practice in 2007.
Tooth Extractions
After tooth extraction, its important for a blood clot to form to stop the bleeding and begin the healing process. Thats why we ask you to bite on a gauze pad for 30-45 minutes after the appointment. If the bleeding or oozing still persists, insert another gauze pad and bite firmly for another 30 minutes. You may have to do this several times.
Ridge Augmentation
Ridge augmentation is a general term that refers to rebuilding jaw bone that has been lost. Typically these are more extensive procedures that may involve splitting of the bone or the use of titanium mesh.

Orthodontics
The most common teeth to be impacted in the mouth other than third molars or wisdom teeth are canines. When there is insufficient space and teeth crowding, an adult canine can be stuck underneath the gum tissue and bone and unable to emerge into the mouth naturally. This requires a combination of surgery to expose the tooth and orthodontics to help guide the tooth appropriately into the mouth.
Braces
If you are reading this page, then you most likely are in braces, and your orthodontist has recommended this treatment. A narrow maxilla, or upper jaw, can cause crowded teeth, nasal obstruction, or obstructive sleep apnea. Traditional dental expanders are only effective in younger children. After adolescence, a bone-based appliance using temporary anchorage screws is needed to create a skeletal expansion of the upper jaw.
