Best Shelter!

Ever since the Adopt-A-Pet has been in Reisterstown, I have been so happy to know that there is finally a no-kill pet rescue in my area. The fundraisers are so sweet and I always give a donation when I see them. Everytime I go in the employees are very friendly and always help me with any questions that I've ever had. I have heard that they save about 300 cats and dogs a year! I do have to say that the new crew at the shelter is a little more outgoing overall than the last crew, however, I have no complaints about this shelter. When I was a kid my mother and I surrendered a dog we found on the street who was in terrible condition, they took him in and got him a home! I would never adopt a pet from any other place. I think it is so cool that there is a place that exists in walking distance where people put their hearts and hard work into a good cause. I completely disagree with the other reveiw, I don't know why anyone would ever say such a terrible thing about this place. They are very small and can't take in as many animals as the SPCA, but what they do is amazong on the grand scheme of things. While the SPCA takes in a thousand a year, how many do they euthanize? I know that the Adopt-A-Pet works solely off of donations because, think about this economy, I have a few pets of my own and they aren't cheap! I could only imagine how much it costs to take care of "3 or 4" pets a month, let alone THIRTY, which is usually what I see, sometimes even more. Overall, I LOVE the Adopt-A-Pet Center and I hope that it runs for a very, very long time.

Sincerely,
One Reisterstown Animal Lover!

I just recently started finding out more about the Adopt-A-Pet center in Reisterstown. My son started volunteering at the center and it was at this time I started to see the center in action. The employees and volunteers are amazing. They are so kind and loving to all of the animals at the center. I go to drop off and pick up my son and end up spending an hour in the place, playing with the animals and talking to the employees. The stories behind the animals is really tear jerking and it makes me want to adopt them all. Currently, there is a 16 year old Russian Blue cat named "Blue". Blue's owner died and now in his remaining years he is at the Adopt A Pet center, hoping for someone to love and take him home. Occasionally, when I go to pick up my son, they have Blue out of his cage. He just lays around, he is just so sweet. Out of all the shelters, I'm glad Blue is here, he will be loved even if he never finds another home. This is truly a wonderful place.

I adopted my cat from this center 2 years ago and I won't adopt from anywhere else in the future.

Be kind, give a cat or dog a loving home adopt today :)

The comment in 2017 about this operation being a scam is false. I volunteered here before and the only reason the people in the blue shirts are paid to collect donations is due to insurance reasons. You must be insured to work here due to work with animals that have diseases and to be insured, you must be over 18. Going out into traffic includes being insured. They do have volunteers, though. They clean litter boxes, walk dogs, feed and play the animals, and clean the cages. Animals also receive veterinary care which is done through the company finances.

I don't know who the person who claimed this facility was a scam, but they obviously have not even step foot inside the shelter. They don't know who works there and clearly did not think about what actually goes into running a shelter. If they let anyone volunteer there which happens to be anyone 13 and over, you'd have kids getting ringworm who don't know how to prevent it and the company could be sued.

It's not against the law for them to run things this way, but when you run a non-profit no-kill shelter and you want everything to go to the animals, that's how it is.

I think this operation is a scam. There are no pets on their website, and they link with PetFinder.com that they use as the pets they can adopt. So where does all of the money go that they collect from all over the state of Maryland?

I also know those people in blue shirts are paid to collect money - no as a volunteer!

My father recently died and we had to surrender his pet. (His pet doesn't like other dogs and we had dogs in our home already.) She's a sweetie though. This organization was one of the only no kill shelters that would accept his pet considering she doesn't like other dogs. (Most were either full or unwilling to accept a dog that doesn't get along with others.) They were very caring given our situation and made arrangements for our intake very quickly. "Erik" was incredible and gave me so much comfort in knowing that this dog would be adopted to a forever home. I do not agree with the last two reviews. If there policy is that you can't adopt a cat and let it roam outside, that's the policy....go get a free cat somewhere if you don't agree. The group is NOT a scam organization as another reviewer mentioned. Their pets are on their website and with PetFinder, a national organization that showcases pets in need of adoption. In fact, they get excellent reviews for their treatment of the animals, the cleanliness of the facility. They care...and that matters. I am grateful for their efforts to re-home my father's pet and all the TCL they give all animals. Thank you AAR!

If you plan on letting your cat outdoors, you might not want to mention that on your application. These folks would rather cats live in tiny cages than ever be allowed outside.
