Chiropractic Adjustments
The position and movement of the joints and articulations in your body are very important. Most people know that chiropractors make “manipulations” or “adjustments” to the spine (the two words are, for the most part, interchangeable). Disc Herniation Treatment
Neuropathic pain originates from the nerve system and typically feels like shooting, burning, tingling, and/or numbness. Examples of neuropathic pain are radiating symptoms into the leg from a disc herniation in the lower back or into the arm from a disc herniation in the neck. Because nerves are very delicate and heal very slowly, neuropathic pain can persist long after the cause of the nerve irritation (such as a disc herniation) has been corrected. One common off-label use medication prescribed to treat neuropathic pain is gabapentin (Neurontin) which is actually an anticonvulsant. Many patients with chronic radiculopathies (radiating nerve pain into one or more the extremities) are prescribed gabapentin at 600mg / 3 times per day. The most common side effects of gabapentin include dizziness, sleepiness, water retention (swelling), and problems walking. Gabapentin has psychoactive effects and can lead to chemical dependency.
