Electrocardiogram
When you schedule your examination with one of our physicians, you will be scheduled to have a complete cardiovascular examination, which will include assessment of your blood pressure, pulse rate and regularity, respirations and general body habitus. Your examination will also include a complete assessment of the peripheral vascular system which may include in office testing such as EKG, Echocardiogram, Carotid Study, and possibly cardiac stress testing.

Internal Medicine
Dr. Garrett Brown obtained his medical degree from Florida State University College of Medicine and continued his internal medicine training at the University of Florida, Gainesville from 2013-2016 and his cardiovascular disease training at University of Florida from 2016-2019. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease. Dr. Brown has been a member of the American College of Cardiology since 2016. Most recently, Dr. Brown was practicing at Tampa General Hospital, where he completed his fellowship in Interventional Cardiology. Upon completion, he will be board eligible for Interventional Cardiology. Dr. Brown enjoys traveling the world. He has climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, seen the Serengeti’s great migration in Tanzania, swam with Great White sharks in South Africa, trekked alongside Orangutans in Borneo, and hiked with the Komodo dragons of Indonesia. He loves photography and has a hobby of drone/travel videography. Dr. Brown enjoys working out and resides in Sarasota with his wife and son.

Ultrasound
An echocardiogram is a non-invasive test that uses sound waves (ultrasound) to image the structures of the heart. During an echocardiogram, an ultrasound technician uses a small, hand-held scanning device to direct sound waves at your chest area. The sound waves bounce off the heart and create an "echo" that is translated into a graphic video that your cardiologist will review for diagnostic purposes. These images help the cardiologist learn more about your heart’s size and function.
MRI
Cardiac P.E.T. (Positron Emission Tomography) is one of the newest, most advanced methods for physicians to study the heart. (insert info on HSS offering Cardiac PET) P.E.T. scans are non-invasive and painless. They unveil the function/physiology of organs and tissues, while other imaging techniques (e.g., x-ray, MRI, and CT scans) only show structure. These studies can reveal the health of the vessels supplying blood to the heart, heart muscle and surrounding tissue. With P.E.T. imaging, physicians can evaluate areas of the heart muscle that are not receiving adequate blood flow due to blockages in the arteries, detect coronary heart disease, assess tissue scarring due to a heart attack, and determine if bypass surgery or angioplasty will benefit a damaged part of the heart.
X-Rays
Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear stress test: This test helps to determine which parts of the heart are healthy and function normally and which are not. A small amount of radioactive substance (isotope) is injected into the patient. Then the Nuclear Medicine technologist uses a special camera to identify the rays emitted from the substance within the body; this produces clear pictures of the heart tissue on a monitor. These pictures are done both at rest and after exercise. Using this technique, areas of the heart that have a decreased blood supply can be detected.
Computed Tomography
Dr. Yamada graduated from Northwestern University Medical School. After internship and residency at Emory University, he completed his cardiology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. Moving to Sarasota where he joined Heart Specialists in 2001, he has served as Chairman of the Cardiovascular Quality Review Committee, Chairman of the Cardiology Privileging Committee, and Cardiology Department Chief, all at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Dr. Yamada is Board Certified in Cardiovascular Diseases and Nuclear Cardiology, and specializes in invasive diagnostic coronary angiography as well as all aspects of non-invasive cardiology. In addition, Dr. Yamada became one of the first physicians worldwide to become Board Certified in Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (Cardiovascular CT) in 2008. He resides in Sarasota with his wife and two children.

Sports Medicine
Keith obtained his Bachelors of Science degree in Sports Medicine in 1994 from Central Michigan University and is a board Certified Athletic Trainer. He received a Master’s degree in 1997 in Exercise Physiology. Upon graduation, he moved to New England and began teaching in the Health Science Department and rehabilitating collegiate athletes in various sports at Plymouth State University in Plymouth, New Hampshire. He received his Masters from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Physician Assistant (PA) studies in 2002. Since graduating PA school, Keith returned to his home state of Michigan where he began working in cardiology. He then relocated to Florida in 2006. From 2006-2014 he was working in Port Charlotte, FL specializing in cardiac electrophysiology. Keith is a founding board member of South African Medical Expeditions and has traveled on various foreign missions since 2003. He has traveled to rural South Africa a dozen times and has also served in Nicaragua and post-Earthquake Haiti in 2010. He has shared his mission experiences with his wife Elizabeth and they are enjoying parenting their young daughters. Leisure time is spent in various forms of physical activity and studying leadership development.
