Few things display more satisfaction than a repeat customer. The Burmans requested a master bedroom addition to their home that Kodiak built in 1996, the first produced by Kodiak Enterprises Inc. acting alone. The 576 square foot addition was of matching log construction, with a large deck in front. The master bathroom incorporated custom designed cabinetry and a steam shower. The original construction was also updated, with the former master bedroom becoming an ante-room for the new master bedroom. A loft was added for an additional sleeping area. Tile was replaced. Countertops were replaced with granite slab, and much, much more. The remodel and addition transformed the Burman’s mountain getaway into a full time luxury residence.

Door Installation/Replacement
Windows and doors are inspected for performance, proper installation and maintenance. Most people identify windows as the number one energy improvement for buildings, but due to their high cost, windows are often a low priority. If your windows and doors latch and seal properly, the differences between products, old and new, are marginal.

Framing
As a Home Energy Consultant, I work with builders while the house is under construction. I inspect the framing, insulation and other components, to meet the certification requirements of Energy Star, LEED for Homes and BuiltGreen Colorado.

Fireplaces
Everyone who visits is awed by the unique finishes and detail, and the exacting use of wood and stone. In our living room, you will notice the custom timber frame design, the hand-made railings on the balcony and stairs, the beautiful tumbled limestone two-sided fireplace and curved timber mantle, and the unique tinted plaster walls. All features were not only built by the Kodiak team, but also designed and engineered by them as well. David made everything look exactly how Mike and I wanted the home to look, and we were right to leave all the fine details to our builder to handle. We cannot say that building a custom home was an easy process, as anyone experienced can attest to, but what a great experience to work with such a great builder who helped us accomplish our dream. Thank you Dave and your company for giving of your very best.

Build Tight and Ventilate Right is our Home Performance mantra. Air leakage is the number one energy problem in most homes, and it occurs in many areas throughout your home, not just around doors and windows.
Gutters
Ice dams are formed when warm air escapes into the attic, melting the snow into water, and re-freezing the water on the eave and in the gutters. Heat should be retained in your living area during the winter and not wasted on your roof.
Garage Door Repair/Replacement
In addition, Carbon Monoxide is poisonous, even at low levels. Source control is the best method for ensuring good indoor air quality. Ensure that gas or solid fuel combustion appliances, such as cooking facilities, furnaces, boilers, hot water heaters and fireplaces, are serviced regularly and venting properly to the outdoors. Concentrate on sealing all cracks, holes, and penetrations in walls and doors between attached garages and conditioned spaces in the home to keep automobile exhaust from entering the home. Consider installing an exhaust fan triggered by motion or your garage door opener for garage exhaust venting. Briefly venting the space when exhaust is present will make the garage and house safer.
Siding
Why does it matter? Insulating your walls can lead to a dramatic reduction in utility bills. If it's time to replace your exterior siding, then be sure to ask your contractor about adding a layer of rigid foam underneath the new sheathing of 1" or more.
Residential Roof Repair
Don't spend another winter doing this! Plus, it's bad for your roofing, and not to mention, dangerous. Choose a permanent solution that will help save you money on future damages and your energy bills.
Residential Roof Replacement/Installation
Completed in a little more than one month, the project significantly improved comfort, energy efficiency, and durability for Northstar Townhomes, with a “drastic decrease in ice dams and icicles”. The contractor was also able to provide rebates from Xcel Energy accounting for approximately 10 to 15% of the cost of the work. In 2013, the Northstar Townhomes HOA moves ahead with roofing replacement without the additional and ongoing costs of roof de-icing cable and regular roof maintenance.
Constructed two classroom additions to school facilities and one juvenile detention facility. Responsibilities included layout, scheduling, submittals, purchasing, supervision, quality control, carpentry, and project correspondence.
Insulation
Surrounded by Engelmann Spruce and with the peaceful sounds of a rushing mountain stream running within a few feet of the home, this residence provides excellent peaceful mountain seclusion. With the site at 10,600 feet of elevation, and in the shade of the forest, energy efficiency is of paramount importance in providing comfort, and this home is an example for all to consider. Features include a HERS rating of 58, a whole-home heat-recovery ventilation system for assured indoor air quality, and advanced air-sealing and insulation systems for assured comfort with minimal energy costs. Efficiency meets luxury yet again in another high performance home by Kodiak.
Masonry
Our 2005 Summit County Parade of Homes entry won the award for Best Custom Home Value. We at Kodiak Enterprises are very proud of this distinction. Construction of this second custom home for the Palazzari family commenced September 1, 2004. This hillside residence steps gently upward from the street to the National Forest above, specifically the Eagle's Nest Wilderness Area. Leaning timber posts and vertical columns and pilasters are an appropriate metaphor to the forest beyond. With a living area of 3350 square feet, and a garage of 650 square feet, this large home is being constructed for a comparably smaller budget than typical for the neighborhood. Well planned, this home features rough sawn Douglas Fir timber exterior accents, rough-sawn cedar siding, in-floor radiant heat, and cultured stone masonry. Fine finishes include porcelain tile, knotty alder doors and trim, cherry and knotty alder cabinetry, hickory wood floors, slate floors, oil-rubbed bronze fixtures and hardware, and granite slab countertops. Other upgrades include April Aire whole house humidification, computer networking, and a monitored security system.
Caulking
In a heating climate, the most important aspect of windows is that they seal properly. Since windows typically take more than 20 years to pay for themselves in energy savings, it is best to maintain your current windows to provide a good air-seal utilizing caulking, foam and weatherstripping. Often, drafts adjacent to windows are due to leaky trim and not the window, so seal the trim with caulking or the jamb with foam sealant. Install insulated window coverings such as thermal blinds or warm window quilts on all windows. In the wintertime, close them at night to insulate the room, and open them up during the day to improve solar heat gain.
