Founded in 1925, Chesapeake Biological Laboratory is a marine research facility, and is a part of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science. The center provides a wide variety of research and information studies. It offers a program in ecosystem studies and restoration science that includes molecular, organism, community and systems ecology. The center provides a research program in fisheries science, including population dynamics, ecosystem modeling and restoration ecology.
