Adrienne Arthur is a project designer at Sowinski Sullivan. Since joining the firm in 2015, Adrienne has worked on a variety of projects producing construction documents and coordinating with other disciplines, including a vehicle maintenance facility for the DRJTBC in Easton, Pennsylvania, the replacement platform canopy skylights at SEPTA's 69th Street Terminal, and the circulation elements for the adaptive reuse of NFTA's DL&W Terminal for a new LRT station in Buffalo. She has also been engaged in the planning and conceptual design for projects such as SEPTA's 31st Street, Conshohocken, and Willow Grove Stations and Amtrak's New Carrollton Station.

The stations present a wide range of existing conditions. City Hall and 12th-13th & Locust are underground urban stations whose accessible street-level entrances Sowinski Sullivan had to integrate into the urban landscape without negatively impacting pedestrian or vehicular traffic. The Ashland, Collingswood, and Westmont stations exist in a more suburban context, with station buildings at street level and platforms on elevated viaducts. For these stations, Sowinski Sullivan strove to create a similar experience for all passengers, regardless of their physical abilities, while working within the constraints of the structural elements supporting the tracks. At Haddonfield, the street-level station building spans above the platform and tracks, which sit below-grade in a cut bordered by concrete retaining walls and a NJ Transit track. The confined nature of this station’s existing geometry limited the elevator placement, pushing Sowinski Sullivan to find the most user-friendly and functional scheme within the given parameters. In addition to new elevators, the six stations also required a variety of layout improvements. These ranged from redesigning the farelines to relocating existing ramps and stairs.

Insulation
The existing roof requires replacement of roofing material and insulation due to the current state of deterioration The Consist Shop expansion allows a 7-car consist to fit in the existing shop. Constructed to match the material palette of the Phase II Shop Expansion with an architectural precast concrete wall panel and insulated metal wall panel exterior, the expansion includes an extension of the existing interior high-level gantry platform and access to the new exterior cleaning platform. The exterior cleaning platform and standing seam metal canopy above is directly adjacent to the south wall of the existing shop, extending for most of the Consist Shop expansion length. The Transportation Building is designed to accommodate SEPTA’s anticipated increase of staff from 45 to 75 employees, providing locker rooms, bunk rooms, a lounge, and a kitchen for rest and relaxation, and office space for administrative personnel and the Yard Master. The Train Wash Building houses the train washer system controls, pumps, tanks, and water reclamation equipment used for washing SEPTA’s fleet of cars and locomotives.
