Income Tax
You must take your RMD withdrawal by December 31 each year. However, if you turn 73 this year, you may delay your first RMD withdrawal until April 1 of the following year. Waiting until next year would require you to take both this yearâ€™s and next yearâ€™s distribution in the same tax year, which could increase your overall income tax liability for next year. Before deciding to delay your initial RMD withdrawal, you should consider the tax effects of this decision.
