Dental Examination
The ADA and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommend that children receive their first dental exam within six months of getting their first tooth and definitely before their first birthday. Previously, it was recommended that children should be seen when they are two years old but dental decay can occur as soon as the first tooth erupts.

Teeth Cleaning
Maintaining routine cleanings and exams as well as flossing is extremely important to your overall dental health. Using a good toothbrush such as a Sonicare toothbrush can help maintain gum health by keeping your teeth free of plaque and tartar. On top of your daily hygiene, we recommend getting a professional cleaning every 6 months. Having your teeth professionally cleaned is known as a prophylaxis. The hygienists at Grand Corner Dental will clean your teeth using various instruments and devices to loosen and remove deposits such as plaque and tartar. Routine xrays and exams are also beneficial for detecting any cavities or other problems.

Fillings
When choosing to fill a cavity, there are two types of materials to consider. You can choose a more natural, tooth colored filling which is called a resin composite filling or you can have a silver amalgam filling. Resin composite fillings are strong and last many years and have a more natural look than silver amalgam fillings. Most people with the naked eye are unable to tell a resin composite filling from the natural tooth color.

Veneers
A veneer consists of a thin layer of material placed over a tooth, either to improve the aesthetic of a tooth or to protect damage done to a tooth's surface. There are two main types of material used to fabricate a veneer: composite and dental porcelain.
Crowns
The most common method of crowning a tooth involves using a dental impression of a prepared tooth by a dentist to fabricate the crown outside of the mouth. A temporary crown is created until the permanent crown is ready. The permanent crown can then be inserted at a separate dental appointment. Crowns come in a variety of types including tooth-colored, gold, and porcelain. The cost of a crown will vary depending on the type of crown used.
Bridges
Bridges are a fixed dental restoration used to replace a missing tooth by permanently joining an artificial tooth to adjacent teeth or dental implants. A dental bridge is fabricated by reducing the teeth on either side of the missing tooth or teeth by a preparation pattern determined by the location of the teeth and by the material from which the bridge is fabricated. Materials used for bridges include gold, porcelain fused to metal, or just porcelain alone.

Root Canal Treatment
Root canals are a type of dental surgery known as endodontic therapy. Endodontic therapy is a sequence of treatments for the pulp of a tooth that results in the elimination of infection and protection of the diseased tooth from future invasion. To cure the infection and save the tooth, the Dr. Sargent drills into the pulp chamber and removes the infected pulp and then removes the nerve from the root canal. After this is done he fills each of the root canals and the chamber with an inert material and seals up the opening. Many people view a root canal as a painful procedure. However, most patients report little or no pain during or after the procedure.

Deep Cleaning
If diagnosed with periodontal disease (also known as gum disease) you must go through a process known as root planing and scaling which is a deep cleaning to remove or eliminate dental plaque and calculus (tartar) from the crown and root surfaces of teeth. To maintain effective treatment of periodontitis the patient must come in for periodontal cleanings every 3-4 months consistently after the initial diagnosis. In some cases the patient will be referred to a Periodontal Specialist for possible periodontal surgery. Some of the symptoms of periodontal disease include bad breath (halitosis) and bleeding or puffy gums.

Dentures
Dentures and partial dentures are prosthetic devices constructed to replace missing teeth. Dentures are supported by the surrounding soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity. Depending on the design, the cost of dentures can are often extremely affordable. Grand Corner Dental provides dentures on Spokaneâ€™s South Hill for the convenience of our patients. Conventional dentures are removable, however there are many different denture designs, some which rely on bonding or clasping onto teeth or dental implants.
