Unlike other common eye disorders that threaten eyesight while displaying noticeable changes in vision, glaucoma often produces no clear symptoms. In fact, many glaucoma sufferers do not even realize they have the condition until their vision has been irreversibly damaged. Dr. Sheth is a native of the Detroit metropolitan area. He received both his Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Michigan, where he graduated with honors and earned a merit scholarship. He then graduated from Wayne State Medical School with honors for all four years. He completed his internship at the Detroit Medical Center and finished his Ophthalmology residency at Summa Health System, an affiliate of the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Sheth went on to do a two-year fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at Louisiana State University, the center where Refractive Surgery first began in the United States.

Diabetic retinopathy is an eye disease caused by diabetes in which blood vessels leak, slowly diminishing your vision and even causing blindness.

Ultrasound
Advances in cataracts surgery technology have made the procedure extremely safe and effective. During surgery, a tiny incision is made on the side of the cornea, allowing access to the cataract. Phacoemulsification uses ultrasound waves to gently break up the lens into pieces, which are then suctioned away, whereas extracapsular surgery removes the cloudy core of the lens in a single piece. Afterwards, an artificial or intraocular lens (IOL) is typically used to permanently replace the clouded lens. The clear, plastic lens is undetectable to the patient and facilitates greatly improved vision. For patients who are unable to receive an IOL, glasses or contacts may be used to correct vision after cataract surgery.
