Guardianship
A guardianship is a legal relationship between a guardian and an individual who would be at serious risk of harm or exploitation if left without someone to help care for them. Some examples include developmentally disabled children who continue to need assistance after age 18, or a person who is unable to communicate or take care of themselves due to an accident or the aging process.

Social Security Disability
A guardian of the person makes decisions about the physical well-being, health care, and living arrangements of the incapacitated person. A guardian of the estate protects a person's assets while paying bills, managing property, and investing prudently. The guardian can apply for and manage benefits that the incapacitated person may be eligible for, including Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income, Veterans Affairs benefits, and Social Security Disability.

Estate Planning
Estate administration, commonly called probate, is when the court appoints a person or entity to administer the assets and property of someone upon their death. The procedures in an estate administration may take from six months to several years, depending on the complexity of the estate.
Trusts
A trust is a legal entity that can “own” assets.
