Narrows Marina

We just returned from a stay at the Narrows Marina in Tacoma. We won't go back. Let me say the people were wonderful. However, the accomodations were anything but. We were put on a dock space with no power or water. We paid $1 per foot. The bait store is a long walk. You cannot get out of the dock space without the key. The ramp has only one foot left on a minus tide and less than 20' of length in the water to swing a boat in. We told them we had a sailboat to launch. When we arrived we discovered power lines over the ramp just 15-20' up. There was no way we could launch. We need at least 45' mast up. We ended up wasting a half day going to Point Defiance to launch. There is no laundry or showers.

Next time we will cross the bridge and stay at Arabellows sp? They are the only marina in the south sound that takes reservations.

I shouldn't forget to mention that the rip currents in the outer space where we were are viscious. They eddy like mad and make it very difficult to dock. I am sure the inner spaces are not so bad. We tried to come in on the slack. The one time we didn't we got slammed into the corner of the dock when the rip eddy caught the rudder and spun us around like a top.

Thought I'd share my experience from September. I haven't been to this marina in years and my my has it changed! It was busy and they were nothing but informative on where to go when we arrived with our boat. My husband and I are from Seattle and wanted to stay overnight. They have a temp moorage dock with access to shore power and fresh water! I thought they had competitive pricing at $1 per foot, $25 min. Our boat is a 22'. They allowed us to launch our boat because we were staying on the temp dock (for a fee) and wanted to go out on the water the next morning in the south sound. It was so convenient!! Access to clean, stocked restrooms. Cute gift and tackle store with some bait. Had drinks at the restaurant. Overall great customer service at the marina and at the restaurant. Definitely will be staying here again! Thank you.
