Acupuncture: Acupuncture is a traditional oriental approach usually involving inserting small needles in carefully selected points of the body. It has been accepted by the FDA, since 1997, as an effective treatment for pain, and research is ongoing to determine what other and more specific benefits it can provide. Dr Spitz has been doing acupuncture since 1998, and has had success treating many conditions too numerous for a complete list. Her most frequent treated diagnosis are arthritis, acute injuries, carpal tunnel, fibromyalgia, lymphedema and abdominal pain. See also the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture.

While Dr. Spitz has a busy practice she realizes that she is unique in her offering of both alternative healing methods and traditional treatments. These two approaches are complementary, and sometimes one works better, and sometimes the other. She is accepting new patients for general family practice. Also, she is happy to see patients who have another primary care doctor in consultation to see if the alternative methods she employs will be beneficial.

Dr Spitz is board certified in medical acupuncture and family practice, and has been practicing medicine for over 35 years. She received her MD degree from Indiana University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in family practice at Phoenix Baptist Hospital in Phoenix, AZ, and received her acupuncture training at UCLA. Dr Spitz was part of a large group practice in Orlando for several years, and left because she wanted to practice medicine in a different way. She has been in solo practice at her present location and since March 2000.

Dr. Spitz has full privileges at Parrish Medical Center, PMC, but chooses to use hospitalists to admit and take care of her patients in the hospital. These are board certified medical doctors. This allows Dr. Spitz to keep on time in the office and the patients receive full attention of a hospital doctor when they need it most. Dr. Spitz appreciates a call from patients when they are admitted as then she will be able to visit and check on their progress. Just call the office anytime and leave the message that you have been admitted to PMC. If you go to the Emergency Department at PMC, please notify them that Dr. Spitz is your doctor. You will automatically be referred to her hospitalist team and she will be able to get copies of your records.

Massage Therapy: Massage therapy can help patients with a variety of problems including headaches, head and neck range of motion limitations, low back pain, old injuries/scar tissue, fibromyalgial, TMJ dysfunction, piriformis syndrome (sometimes mislabeled "sciatica"), carpal tunnel syndrome, plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, trigger finger, and runner's knee. Medical massage is performed with the intent of improving conditions or pathologies that have been diagnosed by a physician who has written a prescription for massage.
