Apicoectomy
During apicoectomy, the gum tissue near the tooth is opened so that the underlying bone can be seen and inflamed and infected tissue can be removed. The end of the root tip is removed, as well. A root-end filling is placed and the gum is then sutured. Providing the area remains free of infection and inflammation, the bone heals naturally around the root.

Dr. Gupta received a master’s of science degree from Delhi University, India. He earned his DDS from Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery in 1997. He then went on to Staten Island University Hospital to complete a general practice residency. Continuing his education, in 2000, Dr. Gupta attended Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery to complete a two-year post-doctoral training program in the specialty of endodontics.

During her last year of dental school, she was awarded the Student Achievement Award in Endodontics and discovered her love for the endodontic specialty from amazing mentors in school. After dental school, Dr. Talalenko worked as a general dentist serving the communities of Southwest Florida. She branched from her general dentistry roots and aimed to specialize in endodontics, leading her to attain her post-doctoral Certificate in Advanced Education in Endodontics from Stony Brook University. During her time at Stony Brook’s specialty program, Dr. Talalenko provided endodontic care to the communities of Long Island and spent her time completing research on lasers in endodontics. She presented her research at the national American Association of Endodontics annual meeting in Chicago, Illinois.
