Professionalism

I've been there 3 times at least, and each time I had to wait an hour to be seen. Then I was given perfunctory tests that anywhere else should've taken half an hour, but I never left this place in under 3 hours. The last time I got so upset waiting for Dr Feelgood that I told him to eat crap, die, and not invite me to the funeral. This place was crawling (as it seemed to me) with incompetence and unprofessionalism; I will be finding another doctor because they run things like a chop shop.

Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy consists of the transmission of freezing temperatures to the retina, by applying a very cold probe to the outside of the eye (the sclera).

Emergency Care
In the ophthalmic oncology setting, B-scan ultrasonography is commonly used for the initial and follow-up evaluation of retinoblastoma. Retinoblastoma is a malignant retinal cancer that occurs during childhood. In an emergency department context, B-scan ultrasound can be used for diagnosing ocular pathology in patients who present with acute conditions like central retinal artery occlusions or traumas, which result in retinal detachments, vitreous hemorrhages, or lens dislocations.
Electrocardiogram
REGENERON-VIEW1 – is a two-year trial comparing Lucentis and the VEGF –trap molecule, in varying doses. Diagnostic testing includes but is not limited to optical coherence tomography, fluorescein angiography, routine electrocardiograms and laboratory tests at no charge.

Macular Degeneration
Conditions amenable to this treatment approach include age related macular degeneration, presumed ocular histoplasmosis syndrome (POHS), and choroidal neo-vascular membranes (CNVM). These are secondary to inflammatory diseases, trauma, juxtafoveal telangiectasis, and central serous retinopathy.
Cataracts
The most common risk following Retina surgery is an increase in the rate of cataract development. In most patients, a cataract can progress rapidly, and often becomes severe enough to require removal. Other less common complications include infection and retinal detachment. Either can occur during surgery or afterward, but both can be treated immediately.
Cataract Surgery
Electroretinography (ERG) is an eye test that is used to detect abnormal function of the retina, which is the light-detecting portion of the eye. In this test, the rods, cones and light sensitive cells of the eyes are examined. During the test, an electrode is placed on the cornea (the front of the eye) to measure your retinal cells’ electrical response to light. An ERG is useful in evaluating inherited (hereditary) and acquired disorders of the retina. An ERG can also be useful in determining whether retinal surgery is preferable over other types of ocular surgery. Cataract surgery, for instance, might be useful to improve a patient’s eyesight. Some diseases that the doctor might be testing for include: retinitis pigmentosa, Leber’s congenital amaurosis, choroideremia, Usher’s syndrome, night blindness, cone dystrophies, etc.

Multiple Sclerosis
Visual evoked potential is a test that records how the visual system records light. During a VEP test, three electrodes are attached to the patient’s head with a type of cement glue. The patient is then asked to stare at a checkerboard pattern on a television screen. Each eye is tested separately. The electrodes record hundreds, sometimes thousands, of electrical responses from the patient’s visual nervous system, and a special computer records these responses. VEP tests are used to evaluate optic neuritis, optic tumors, retinal disorders, and demyelenating diseases such as multiple sclerosis.

Diabetic Retinopathy
Membrane peeling: This step involves the removal of fine membranes from the retinal surface, using micro forceps. A special diamond-dusted silicone scraper may also be used in select patients. Membrane peeling is commonly used in the repair of macular puckers, macular holes, retinal detachments, and diabetic retinopathy.

Ultrasound
B-scan Ultrasound plays an important role in the diagnosis and management of various intraocular disorders in both clear and opaque ocular media.

Lesions
These medications are used to treat a variety of disorders, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, eye infections (endophthalmitis), macular edema, central and branch retinal vein occlusions, uveitis, and other retinal lesions.
