M ichael A. Claxton joined the firm in 1995 and has been a shareholder since 1999. He concentrates his practice in the areas of estate planning, probate, guardianships, elder law, and business/corporate matters. He is admitted to the Washington and Oregon State bar associations, as well as to the Western Washington U.S. District Court.
Practices in both State and Federal trial and appellate courts and has successfully argued before the Washington State Supreme Court. His areas of focus include: wrongful death claims and injuries from automobile, motorcycle, and trucking collisions. He is licensed to practice in both Washington and Oregon.
B rian attended Gonzaga University where he received both his undergraduate and law degrees. After law school, Brian attended the University of San Diego School of Law where he earned a Masters of Law in Taxation. Prior to joining Walstead Mertsching, Brian worked for a tax law firm focusing on business transactional law and estate planning. His current practice consists of estate planning, probate, business/corporate law, and taxation.

M aggie is from the local area and a graduate of Kelso High School. After obtaining her degree in English Literature and Dance from the University of Washington she went on to attend Willamette University College of Law where she earned her Juris Doctorate. During her time at Willamette, she served as the Managing Editor for Willamette Law Review, Editor-in-Chief for the Willamette Social Justice and Equity Journal, and served as a judicial extern for Judge You at the U.S District of Oregon. Maggie worked as an intern for Walstead Mertsching throughout law school. She joined the firm as an Associate Attorney in 2020 and was promoted to Shareholder in 2024. Her practice focuses on personal injury, real estate, landlord/tenant, and civil matters.
