Sinusitis
Acute sinusitis often starts as a cold, which then turns into a bacterial infection. Allergies, nasal problems, and certain diseases can also cause acute and chronic sinusitis.

Ear Infections
Symptoms include loss of hearing possibly combined with frequent and painful ear infections. Early symptoms include water trapping in the ear canal. As the condition progresses, debris/earwax may get trapped along with water and cause infection making surgery mandatory. Exostosis is most commonly treated by a surgical procedure to remove the growth(s). Traditionally the surgery has involved an incision behind the ear and a surgical drill to chisel out the excess bone growth. This method caused scarring and resulted in a longer recovery time.
Sleep Disorders
Sleep disorders, including snoring, sleep apnea, insomnia, and sleep deprivation are common. Forty-five percent of normal adults snore at least occasionally, and 25 percent are habitual snorers. Problem snoring is more frequent in males and overweight persons, and it usually grows worse with age.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Experts do agree on one thing: Kids with sleep apnea don’t necessarily appear sleepy during the day. In fact, many seem agitated, hyperactive, and inattentive. That makes sense. Sleepy children often fight drowsiness with over-activity and can become the kind of cranky, aggressive kids that are as likely to end up in the principal’s office as the doctor’s office. Some children have even been diagnosed with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) when the change in behavior was due to these adverse symptoms from enlarged tonsils.

During the initial consultation a detailed history is taken and a thorough assessment is carried out. A needle may be inserted into the gland to collect a sample of cells from the lump. These cells are then analysed under the microscope by the pathologist to assess the nature of the swelling. If stones are suspected X-rays are often performed first. Occasionally, other tests such as a CT scan, MRI scan or a sialogram may be required.

There are other tests, such as a CT scan, MRI scan or nuclear isotope scan which may be required in some cases. Often no treatment may be necessary for the thyroid lump (goitre) and you will be advised to adopt a ‘watch and wait policy’. Alternatively, surgery may be advised. This is commonly undertaken when there is a suspicion of cancer, pressure symptoms, uncontrolled over activity, and cosmetic concerns. The surgery is called thyroidectomy and is discussed briefly below.

In 2005 he moved to Los Angeles, CA and commenced further post-graduated training (residency) in Otolaryngology (ENT)- Head & Neck Surgery at Los Angeles County USC Medical Center in 2005. He completed his residency successfully in July 2010.

Short-lived episodes of dizziness:(few seconds to minutes)An extremely common type of vertigo is “benign paroxysmal positional vertigo” which lasts for only a few seconds or minutes but which comes on very suddenly.. It is often started off by the person suddenly looking upwards or sideways, and some people get it when they turn over in bed. Sometimes it starts after a whiplash injury or other head injury, but often there appears to be no reason that they should have started.
Minimally Invasive Surgery
There has been great improvement in the surgical treatment over the last few years. The main principle of surgery now is conserving as much as possible the normal lining of the nose and sinuses, which is achievable thanks to the new surgical techniques. Minimally invasive surgery is now the standard of care and the aim is to restore the normal mucus flow between the sinuses and the nose by adjusting the anatomy of the affected area. Modern techniques include the use of balloon sinuplasty, which reduces further any damage to the lining of the nose, thus making healing faster and more effective. All surgeries are done Endoscopically (with a camera), which results in minimal pain afterwards.

Skin Cancer
Other kinds of cancer, including squamous cell cancer and malignant melanoma, also occur on the skin of the head and neck. Most squamous cell cancers occur on the lower lip and ear. They may look like basal cell cancers and, if caught early and properly treated, usually are not much more dangerous. If there is a sore on the lip, lower face, or ear that does not heal, consult a physician.
Ulcer
Most cancers of the mouth or tongue cause a sore or swelling that doesn’t go away. These sores and swellings may be painless unless they become infected. Bleeding may occur, but often not until late in the disease. If an ulcer or swelling is accompanied by lumps in the neck, be very concerned.
