Hi this is Gloria. My husband and I use to eat in
Nick's a lot (every Sunday after church). I coined the term use to because after eating there on Friday we will never go back. I have never experienced anything like that before. Hopefully restaurant managers and owners will grasp this advice. First of all, new waitresses need to be trained. Second, they need to know that disgruntle customers leave bad tips or don't tip a all. Let's define a disgruntle customer - one that food is cold, their nuts on the waffle is old and smelly, and there is no restitution or retribution offered by cook, manager or waitress. This was my experience at Nick's on Friday. I paid 15.00 for a breakfast that consisted of an over cooked waffle with stale, smelly and old nuts. I sent the food back and started to walk out, but I stayed because I was hungry and really wanted breakfast. I could have done better at McDonald's down the street. I saw the waitress whisper to the owner and he hushed her. I left her a dollar tip, but I was tempted not to leave anything. Normally, I would leave at least two or three dollars, but not this time. I am hoping that the owner at the dinner will read this and realize that he lost a local and a regular. Since, my spending money is not valued there we have decided to frequent on Sunday mornings the dinner on Indian River Road in Chesapeake across from McDonald's. They have great food and we always have the same waitress (Ozza) that gives us hot food and good service. Please share with waitresses that if they allow the cook to give them anything that looks and taste any old kind of way the customer is going to charge that to your tip. The cook is being paid by salary and not a waitress tip, even though he can affect the tip. I worked my way through college in New York at Bloomingdale's. I learned that in order to get good tips presentation, mannerism, service and taste will get you good tips. This concludes my review (gbp82002@yahoo.com).
