The vibe at JoJo was very chill and the atmosphere was cool and laid back. It was just what my girls and I needed to end the long work week. The strawberry margaritas ordered at my table were reportedly *very* strong, but enjoyed by all. The calamari appetizer was nothing extraordinary, but served its purpose; the buffalo wings were served hot and fresh! The downstairs portion of the restaurant is pretty tight and definitely not for the claustrophobic. Because it is small, be prepared for the live jazz band to dominate your ear drums…you WILL have to yell at the people you’re dining with in order to carry on a conversation. I could tell there were a lot of regulars at the bar and a few small groups that felt right at home. Overall, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and having a good time. And that included my party…until we ordered our entrees that NEVER came! We placed our order and waited approximately 30 minutes without so much as an acknowledgment from the server. Since it was a Friday night, the restaurant was full, and one of my friends ordered a steak cooked medium well, we gave them the benefit of the doubt and patiently awaited the arrival of our food. After many minutes passed with no sign of our food, we flagged the server down to inquire about the status of our order. She assured us that it was coming out shortly. But after we insisted that she check on it, she learned that the printer in the kitchen had jammed. Even though she put our order in, the kitchen had no record of it and hadn’t even STARTED preparing it after 30 minutes of waiting. This was very disappointing since one of my friends had to leave for another engagement and didn’t have time to wait even longer for the kitchen to prepare her meal. My other friend and I decided to wait it out since we were already there, starving, and didn’t have enough energy to walk to another place and start the process all over again. So we RE-placed our order and waited even longer for it to come out. I wish I could say that it was worth the wait, but it wasn’t. The crab cakes looked like meatballs and taste like salmon cakes. There was a lot of breading, but no crab in sight. The Mahi Mahi was also a little underwhelming, tasting more like catfish than any Mahi Mahi I’d ever had before. The evening started out good, but unfortunately, the latter part of the evening overshadowed what otherwise would have been a great dining experience. We were offered free dessert for our trouble, but that did no good to my friend who had to leave before she even got her entrée. Bottom line: Go for the jazz and the atmosphere, not for the food or the service. And MAKE SURE that you have your server double-check that the order was received by the kitchen. Had we not made her check on our order, we could have been sitting there all night.

- General Info
- You don't have to be inside at JoJo to absorb the jazz scene. The house band performs with its back to the big front window of this small bar and restaurant, so passersby on the street can enjoy the music without entering. But there are lots of good reasons to go inside, including a friendly staff and often stellar music. There's live jazz from 9:30 p.m. until 1 a.m. every night except Mondays and Fridays. Thursdays are particularly promising, with the Thad Wilson group holding down a regular slot-no cover.
