Dental Examination
Dr. Holder will also look for unusual bumps or discoloration on the cheeks, tongue and soft tissue during your dental exam; these are concerns that should be closely monitored to rule out oral cancer.
X-rays
Dental x-rays are necessary to examine areas that are not visible, such as below the gums and between the teeth. Dr. Holder will prescribe x-rays as needed to complete your oral health assessment.

Teeth Cleaning
Your dental hygienist will generally want to see you 2-4 times per year for a teeth cleaning to remove dental plaque, stains and hardened tartar deposits (calculus). A dental cleaning will make your teeth feel sleek and smooth and make it easier for you to keep the tooth surfaces clean with daily brushing and flossing. Dental Sealants
In addition to regular teeth cleanings, we may recommend sealants for your child's permanent molar teeth. The plastic sealant material is applied to the chewing surface of the tooth to ‘seal’ any deep pits or grooves that cannot be cleaned by regular tooth brushing. This helps prevent bacteria from penetrating the tooth surface and causing a dental cavity.

Fillings
Resin Composite
Dr. Holder may recommend a dental filling to stop the progression of tooth decay and repair the tooth structure. Composite resin filling material is shaped to the tooth and bonded in place with special adhesives designed for dentistry. The result is a filling that looks like your natural tooth and seals the tooth surface to protect it from decay-causing bacteria.
Veneers
Sometimes our teeth are just too small. This young lady already had a lovely smile but she has small “peg” lateral teeth. After Orthodontics to get the correct space, she had bonding to made a more natural shaped tooth. Later when she is an adult, maybe two veneers will replace our bonding. We will just see how things go.
Crowns

Bridges
Dr. Holder designs a dental bridge to replace one or more missing teeth. The support teeth (abutments) on either side of the missing tooth are joined together by the dental bridge to provide a replacement for the missing tooth (pontic).
Dental Bonding
Dental bonding materials are made from a combination of plastic resin filling materials and adhesives that are available in any tooth shade. After the materials are applied, the bonding process is activated using a special light. Dental bonding procedures can be used to close small gaps between teeth or to smooth rough, chipped edges.

Root Canal Treatment
Root canals are necessary when a tooth nerve becomes infected as a result of extensive tooth decay or trauma. The nerve of a tooth is located inside the tooth walls. The nerve extends from the top of the tooth where it is housed in the pulp chamber, and through the tooth roots via ‘canals’ where it is connected to the body's circulatory and nervous system. In a root canal procedure, the nerve is removed and the inside of the pulp chamber and tooth roots are cleaned and sealed to prevent re-infection. Dr. Holder will restore the tooth with a dental crown after the root canal to protect the tooth from further damage.

Dentures
In this case the teeth could not be restored due to severe periodontal disease. Dentures were fabricated to allow a new smile and the ability to eat nourishing foods again. The top dentures were made for him first at his request to see how he would adjust. He was so excited he was ready to proceed on a denture on his lower teeth the same day.

Teeth Whitening
Professional teeth whitening (or bleaching) is a safe procedure for a healthy smile. After taking impressions of your teeth, we create custom whitening trays. The trays are designed to be filled with special teeth whitening gel that helps break through old stains to make your teeth look brighter. You can whiten your teeth while you are at home; just fill the trays with the gel and wear them over your teeth for about 30 minutes a day.
