Veterinary Ophthalmology
Our pets rely on us to give them everything they need from unconditional love to premier medical attention by a qualified veterinarian. At Ash Veterinary Clinic, your furry friend will receive the best of the best when it comes to their medical care. Dr. Toinette Strusinski-Broschay offers several specialized services such as orthopedic surgery, laser surgery, ophthalmology, rehabilitation services, oncology and sports therapy that aren’t offered by most other local veterinarians. We want our patients to have access to the absolute best care possible in-house, rather than causing even more stress on your pet by having to take them for long car rides to see a specialist who may be overwhelmed and unable to offer your pet the specialized care they need.
Beauty is more than skin-deep when it comes to your dog. Allowing our qualified and compassionate veterinary staff keep your pet well-groomed not only gives you a clean-smelling companion, but it also helps keep your pet more comfortable and allows you to spot health problems before they become serious. Regular grooming by a highly trained veterinary staff member keeps your pet comfortable while clearing such things as mats, burrs and ticks from the coat. For some breeds, grooming is very involved. Breeds such as Collies, Chows, Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes are “double-coated,” which means they have a downy undercoat underneath harsher long hair. The down can mat like a layer of felt against the skin if left untended. Silky-coated dogs such as Afghan hounds, Cocker Spaniels and Maltese also need constant brushing and regular trips to the grooming staff to keep tangles from forming. Curly and wiry coats, such as those on Poodles and Terriers, need to be brushed weekly. Proper grooming is more than keeping your pet looking beautiful and clean-smelling, although that is certainly one of the pleasant pay-offs. A coat free of mats, burrs and tangles, and skin free of fleas and ticks, are as comfortable to your dog as clean clothes fresh from the wash are to you. It just makes you feel good, and the effect is the same for your pet. Our employees at Ash Veterinary Clinic are fully trained to handle all breeds of dogs and cats and always groom under a doctor’s supervision. That way, if there are any abnormalities noticed, we always have a fully trained veterinary staff available for treatment. Please call the veterinary extraordinaires at Ash Veterinary Clinic to schedule your pet’s grooming appointment today.
Pain Management
While under anesthesia, your pet will receive a dental scaling to remove all tartar from their teeth and a polishing to make them pearly white again. The veterinarian will perform a full dental exam while your pet is asleep to see if there are any teeth that need to be extracted. Teeth that are rotten and unstable need to be extracted and can save your pet additional pain and further complications down the road. After the dental cleaning, your pet will be sent home on antibiotics, due to the bacteria released while cleaning. If your pet has had extractions, our staff will also send them home with the appropriate pain medication.
Our most popular package is the “Purr”fect Pet Package, which includes the Rabies, Distemper, Leptospirosis, Bordetella and Lymes vaccines; a heartworm test; stool check and deworming for dogs and the Rabies, FVRCP and Feline Leukemia Vaccines; a Felv/FIV test; stool check and deworming for cats. If your pet only needs a single vaccine or just a heartworm test, we offer A ’La Carte pricing as well.
Bacterial and Viral Infection Treatment
The importance of proper dental care for pets has received considerable attention in recent years, and for good reason. By the age of four, more than 70% of domestic dogs show signs of gum disease that can lead to tooth loss, bacterial infections and any number of periodontal diseases.
Ear Infection Treatment
Unlike the vaccine clinics at your local pet supply or feed store, all pets that come through our clinic will receive a full head-to-tail exam by the veterinarian. Visits are on a first-come, first-serve basis. During your pet’s head-to-tail exam, if an abnormality is found, the doctor will give you a recommended treatment plan while you still enjoy the luxury of a free exam. The vaccine clinic is meant for healthy pets. If your pet has a known problem before coming into the vaccine clinic, such as ear infection, itchy skin, etc., an exam fee will then apply. You see, these issues take more time to address and our top priority is to provide the best care possible for your pet.
The staff at Ash Veterinary Clinic is very proud to be one of very few clinics in the area to offer orthopedic surgery on site. Dr. Toinette Broschay has being performing orthopedic surgery for 10 years and has always listed it at a special interest of hers. Having the ability to perform orthopedic surgery on site is a benefit for both you and your pet. Being a smaller veterinary clinic allows us to offer the same surgery at a lower cost to you, without sacrificing the safety of your pet or the quality of the surgery. It also allows you to keep your pet in the same hands of the trusted veterinarian that sees your pet on a regular basis and knows them directly. Some of the surgeries offered at our veterinary clinic are fracture repair (broken bone), luxating patella (popping kneecap), cruciate ligament repair (ACL injury) and FHO repair (broken hip). If your current veterinarian does not offer this type of surgery, please bring your pet in for a complimentary exam to discuss the treatment for your pet with Dr. Broschay.
Dr. Toinette Strusinski-Broschay, who also goes by Dr. Broschay, graduated from Michigan State University in 1998 with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. She completed her undergraduate studies at Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan. After school, she worked at Caputo Animal Hospital for six years and then moved to Ash Veterinary Clinic in 2004 where she was named Medical Director. She held this position until April of 2011 when she purchased the clinic. Dr. Broschay thoroughly enjoys working on such a variety of patients from reptiles and pocket pets to cats, dogs, birds, ferrets, rabbits and the occasional emergency farm animal and wildlife as well. She has a special interest in soft tissue surgery, orthopedic surgery and internal medicine. Dr. Broschay also works with the 4 Keeps Rescue group donating time, medicine and surgery to help them find a home. She is extremely proud of the trust, loyalty and longevity that Ash Veterinary Clinic embodies. This veterinary hospital is one that has been in business and operating with the most community respect for more than 50 years. Although veterinary technology has changed throughout time, this veterinary clinic is built on a solid foundation because of awesome clients and great referrals.

Spaying and Neutering
In addition to our specialized services, Ash Veterinary Clinic also provides basic services such as wellness exams, spaying and neutering, dental care, microchip implantation and nutrition and behavioral evaluations. Our warm and welcoming staff maintains the highest standards to keep us at the top of the animal clinic field and our veterinary staff is always willing to listen to your concerns and answer any questions you have regarding the care your pet is receiving. Our state-of-the-art technology and continuing education gives us an advantage over other veterinarians because we can offer our patients the best medical care for a speedy diagnosis and treatment plan for your precious family members.
Ash Veterinary Clinic is proud to offer your pet the best dental care possible. Unlike humans, pets cannot have dental work done while awake. During a dental cleaning, your pet will be placed under anesthesia and monitored by a schooled, trained and licensed veterinary technician. Unlike many other local veterinary clinics, we NEVER allow an assistant or receptionist to monitor such a critical aspect of your pet’s care that could mean life or death. No matter where you choose to have your pet put under anesthesia, please inquire about the hospital policy or who is qualified to perform this intricate and serious anesthetic process. We only use the safest types of anesthesia and always perform a basic blood screen to check the pet’s blood chemistries, such as liver and kidney function, and complete blood count, which looks at white blood cells and red blood cells, to make sure it is safe to administer the anesthesia.
