The former home of the Asheville Gazette-News, the project was approved as a historic tax credit effort by North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. Partnering with Black Mountain College Museum of Art, Beverly-Grant revived the ground and basement levels to provide new gallery and administration space for the museum. Efforts were made to salvage and restore the original flooring and decorative tin ceilings. Above the space, three apartments were created with renovations to the existing staircase, hallways, existing pine floors, and original five panel doors. Additional features included a new balcony space with views of downtown. Exterior efforts included pointing and repair of masonry, new windows and storefronts, a new roof, sprinkler system, and full plumbing/mechanical/electrical replacement. The project totaled 10,000 square feet.
Door Installation/Replacement
Framing
This new, 40,800 square foot, state-of-the-art medical facility is located on the new MAHEC Biltmore Campus. The building consists of a three story structural steel frame with poured in place concrete basement walls for underground parking facility. The exterior of the building is a combination of native stone work, brick, curtain wall framing, and stucco to blend in with the beautiful site location adjacent to the town of Biltmore Forest. Lobby and waiting areas have extensive wood wainscoting, cut and milled from site, to give a warm inviting feel to this new OB/GYN facility. Exam rooms and support areas have state of the art design elements.
Tile Installation
This facility, designed by Rogers & Associates, was built by Beverly-Grant according to BMW's strict brand standards. Extremely high-end finishes were used throughout, including clinker tile in the automotive service bays, exposed concrete columns and ceramic tiles in the showroom, and solid maple trim throughout.
Fireplaces
This state-of-the-art heart clinic is located on the main campus of Mission Health Care Systems. This was the first major renovation to the existing Heart Center and consists mainly of new exam rooms and physician offices. The new clinic is approximately 6,100 square feet. The waiting room is nicely appointed with fireplaces to relax and calm waiting patients. Extremely hi-tech finishes can be seen throughout. The project schedule was extremely tight with completion in just over four months. The Mission Heart Center was a very challenging project given its location to ongoing hospital operations and heart center. Beverly-Grant places great satisfaction on having zero items to correct after the final inspection by DHSR inspectors.
Skylight Repair/Replacement
This impressive building is located in the middle of downtown Asheville and had very little staging area. Demolition work, which included removal of brick and block from both sides of the existing building, had to be completed over the roofs of two adjacent structures which had numerous skylights and HVAC equipment located on top of them. Extreme care had to be taken in order to prevent damage to these existing structures as well as protect the general public. Once the final GMP was established in May of 2008, final project costs remained within the established GMP budget. The building shell was completed in June 2008 at which time tenant build outs began. Beverly-Grant was also selected for all six of the tenant spaces.

Demolition
The Biltmore Forest Country Club is one of Asheville’s oldest clubs with a significant historic nature. The original club was constructed in the early 1900s. Beverly-Grant was selected as the construction manager furnishing pre-constuction services at the early conception of this project. A preliminary budget was prepared from a small, written project scope sheet prior to any drawings or specifications being prepared. This preliminary budget was utilized from its original submission throughout design, and upon beginning construction. The Guaranteed Maximum Price established was within three percent of that original budget and maintained through completion of the project. Beverly-Grant was responsible for demolition of fifty percent of the existing club and a 29,000 square foot addition. This location also contained the main switch gear and boiler systems that supplied power and heat to the remaining portions of the club left in operation. Great care had to be taken not to disrupt business and maintain club operations. There was no lay-down area around this project site, and with the remaining portions of the club house and the golf course on two other sides, construction activities were restricted to the actual building footprint. Although this project also had an extremely tight schedule and the drawings were not completed prior to construction beginning, the job was completed on time (12 months) and within budget.
Holiday Inn Biltmore East, a 65,000 square foot, full-service property with 111 rooms, was completely renovated over a twenty-four month period. The multi-phased project included an all new timber framed porte-cochère, parking lot, waterfall, landscape lighting, lobby, restaurant and bar, convention space, fitness center, outdoor pool, common spaces, and guest rooms. John Fisher (Fisher Architects) and local interior designer Lizzy Summerlin (LS Interior Design) worked to incorporate the newest Holiday Inn H4 Design standards while maintaining the custom, unique, and mountain concept guests have always favored about this property. Local artwork, furniture, and design makes this hotel a standout from the rest. The hotel was renovated while occupied with only a sixty day total closure period.
Retaining Walls
Beverly-Grant handled the construction of a 16,463 square foot facility for CrossCo, a manufacturer and distributer of hydraulic hoses. This built to suit project included a counter sales area, offices, and manufacturing space. The entire facility is air conditioned and has a fire suppression system with rack storage. The structure is a pre-engineered metal building with concealed fastener roof, sandwich panel siding, and a gabled roof with a 22 foot eave height. Part of the building foundation is a cast in place retaining wall. Overhead doors with dock levelers and seals are included.
Irrigation Systems
Balcrank’s relocated corporate offices began with an existing 40,000 square foot production facility onto which a two-story, 18,000 square foot office addition and 26,00 square foot warehouse addition were completed. The project consisted of new site work and utilities, sprinkler system with fire pump, structural steel and pre-engineered building shell assemblies, polished and epoxy coated floors, elevator, new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, architectural metal panel siding, and modern appointments including 15,000 square feet of raised access floor systems, interior butt glazed glass systems, custom oak door and trim package, and mirror finished stainless handrails. After commencement, significant scope was added to the project including renovation of the existing production facility, compressed air systems, bus duct, and updated lighting packages. Beverly-Grant was able to place the warehouse addition in service 30 days ahead of schedule to allow for a seamless relocation of existing inventory and production equipment.
Baldor Electric Company (now ABB) features a conventional steel building with insulated metal siding, split face block and an air conditioned, manufacturing space. This project included equipment foundations, dock levelers, and a 10 inch floor slab. The building height is 30 feet and spans over 96,000 square feet.
