Laurel OBGYN

My experience at Laurel OBGYN left me feeling hurt and that the office couldn't care less about my needs. I arrived at the office for my appointment and was met by a rude receptionist asking for insurance information first. She didn't ask for my license or social security card, she only needed to see my insurance card. I explained my concern only to be talked to in a condescending manner. Dr. Gilmer was the worst. I had my questions answered in a hateful and she provided no hope for some concerns I was having. My experience with this office was not good and the staff members I encountered were very unprofessional!

My OB was nice, but we talked about how I didn't have insurance and they assured me certain labs would not be sent off for until my new insurance coverage was active. I guess the office either keeps terrible records or does not respect patients' wishes, because I received two bills from the lab totaling almost $1000 ($946 to be exact). The office had no record of my doctor telling me these labs could be held off on, also there's "nothing we can do" about the bill because they are a different entity than the lab. All this occurred over a 20 minute phone conversation where I was placed on hold four times, and eventually was told the office manager would call me back. Uhh yeah, still waiting on that call....

Meanwhile, I'm calling new OB's to transfer my care. Stay far away from Laurel!

Dr. Gilmer has horrible beside manners. She is not reassuring whatsoever and just shrugs and acts like she doesn't care about your concerns. Such an appalling way to treat a scared pregnant woman.

Amazing friendly and helpful staff. I always feel important and comfortable. So glad I found them! Love Dr. Susan West and all her partners!

My experience with this office was appalling. My Dr, Summer Gilmer, has horrible bedside manner. She did not listen to my concerns and did not seem like she had any interest in helping me. She pretty much said "it is no big deal" to my concerns and cut me off to get me out of the door. The appointment lasted about 10 minutes when I had serious health concerns. Additionally, I tried to pay the billing office my $25 copay upon leaving and they wouldn't accept it as they stated I did not owe anything. Three months later the first letter I received from them is extremely brash. It stated they had been repeatedly contacting me (untrue) and if I didn't pay immediately the would report it to my credit and no longer take me as a patient. I don't think anyone in that building is competent.

I am very pleased with my doctor at Laurel OBGYN. She is very positive and I feel as if she is on my side. Occasionally it takes a little longer than I'd like to get results back, but if that is the case, my doctor gives me a call.



Their biggest downfall is their front office staff. I really feel like they do not know what they are doing or if they have been trained. There is at least one girl who is always friendly and willing to help, but another who is just sounds negative on the phone or like I am inconveniencing her by calling.



I moved to the Asheville area about a year or two and have heard great things about this office.
