Oral Cancer Screening
In addition to excellent daily oral hygiene, Dr. Hudon and his staff encourages patients treated for periodontal disease to have professional hygiene care every three months to remove any new bacteria and new calculus that may have accumulated despite your attempts at self-care. These visits also give us an opportunity to reinforce oral hygiene techniques, check and treat any new areas of infection, do oral cancer screening, and check for cavities.

Teeth Cleaning

In some cases, a procedure called functional crown lengthening may be necessary before a restoration can be placed. It is most commonly used in instances where there is decay on the unexposed root of a tooth, the tooth is broken or fractured below the gum line, or more tooth structure is necessary in order to properly restore the tooth.

Gingivectomy and Gingivoplasty
A gingivectomy is usually performed when a patient has excess gum tissue that prevents the proper cleaning of the teeth. Once the extra tissue is removed, the area can be cleansed and maintained more easily. Sometimes the excess tissue growth was a result of an infection or genetics, but can sometimes be caused by medications. Be sure to tell Dr. Hudon about any medications you are taking

Periodontal maintenance is important for patients that have been diagnosed with periodontal disease, have had periodontal surgery, or have symptoms of periodontal disease. Deep Cleaning

Dentures
The rate of deterioration varies per person; however, it begins almost immediately after a tooth is lost or removed and continues throughout life. Once deterioration reaches a certain point, dental prosthetics--such as dentures--will no longer be useful because there will not be enough bone to support them.

Gum Surgery
Traditional gum disease treatment can also inadvertently contribute to gum recession, and can cause bleeding, and inflammation. The harsh tools needed for traditional gum surgery can irritate the gums and cut out healthy tissue. The laser used in LANAP® targets only the diseased tissue, leaving your gum line in place. Bleeding can also be controlled using a laser in place of sharp tools. Inflammation is often reduced by 90 percent after one visit.
