It is important to first rule out other conditions that could contribute to recurrent infections such as uncontrolled allergies, chronic sinus disease, enlarged tonsils and adenoids, or cystic fibrosis.Â If there is still concern for PIDD, your provider at AAAI can obtain laboratory studies (blood work) to check your immune system and further evaluate if there is evidence of an immune problem.Â It is important to note that PIDDs are not the same as auto-immune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus, which are conditions that can only be diagnosed and treated by a rheumatologist.

He also obtains a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Grand Canyon University. He previously worked in pediatrics here in the Valley.
Primary Care
Allergy and asthma specialists at all of our PhoenixÂ Valley-wide locations perform a detailed patient history and examination. Â Appropriate testing will be ordered and results reviewed with the patient and family. Nursing staff will review a detailed written treatment plan that outlines proper use of medication and devices, avoidance techniques, and follow-up care. The treatment plan will also be forwarded to your primary care doctor.

PIDDs are usually associated with recurrent and severe bacterial infections and many times these infections are difficult to treat. Warning signs of PIDD include recurrent ear infections in the last year (4 or more for children and 2 or more for adults), two or more serious sinus infections within one year, two or more months of using antibiotics without much benefit, multiple episodes of pneumonias, chronic diarrhea with weight loss, recurrent viral infections in adults (such as colds, herpes, warts, etc), recurrent deep skin abscesses or boils, need for IV antibiotics to clear infections, infections with normally harmless bacteria, persistent thrush or fungal infection, multiple episodes of sepsis (blood infections), or family history of PIDD.

A board certified Physician Assistant by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants since 2015.Â Â Heather graduated from Midwestern University and spent three years in family medicine before entering the allergy and asthma specialty.Â Her passion lies in helping patients of all ages with asthma and allergies manage their disease so they can enjoy life to the fullest.Â Heather enjoys spending time with her nieces and nephews, running, traveling, baking and calligraphy in her spare time.
Emergency Care
The frequency and severity of Asthma symptoms vary. It can occur a few times a year, once or twice a week, or daily. It can last for a few hours or be prolonged for several days. Severe Asthma attacks may require Emergency Room visits and hospital stays.

An owner-physician of the Arizona Asthma and Allergy Institute. He is board certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology and by the American Board of Internal Medicine. After graduating from the University of Utah Medical School, he completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Utah Medical Center. Following residency, he completed a fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He enjoys community service, skiing, and fishing.

A board certified Physician Assistant by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants since 1998. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Wichita State University. She also possesses a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine, which she obtained from the University of Connecticut. In addition to her experience in Asthma and Allergy, she has worked in the fields of Primary Care, Occupational Medicine, and Neurology. She enjoys outdoor activities, especially, hiking and biking in Northern Arizona.

Eczema also know as Atopic Dermatitis, is a chronic or relapsing inflammatory condition of the skin. It causes itching, dryingÂ and rashes that can appear red and irritated, scaling, crusting or cracking.Â There are several allergic and non-allergic triggers to eczema.
Lesions
Common skin condition characterized by red bumps or welts that itch. Individual lesions last for less than 24 hours. May be either acute (6 weeks) and caused by a wide variety ofÂ external triggers or autoimmune disease.

Kevin graduated from Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona and has previously worked in general pediatrics. Additionally, he graduated from Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois with a Master of Arts in Biomedical Sciences. He obtained his undergraduate bachelor’s degree in health sciences from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. His clinical interests include allergies and sports medicine. He is passionate about helping patients of all ages be as healthy as possible. In his free time, Kevin enjoys hiking, camping, traveling, and watching or playing sports.
